Went with OM for the dark, foreboding atmosphere! Drums had a real tribal feel and the space snd reverb gave it that real sense of dread!! Shame there wasnt as many entries again! Seems to be the same few people in battles, thought the release of the MK2 wouldve got a few new people joining

Nah. Now it's been fully modernised, the MkII is basically like any other sampler. There's not the same culture and a whole genre surrounding it like there was with the SX and its specific sound and functionality. Another nail in the hip hop coffin. Manufacturers still seem intent on removing all mojo from their products.

Well that was hard- really like both-

Asha really reminded me of Water Drums track of one of my fav comps of all time from my late night radio listening days in LA in the early 90s- Journey Into Ambient Groove Vol3 - https://www.discogs.com/release/24404-V ... t-Groove-3
Also was fun to hear Asha and I gravitated to a few of the same samples.

I went with ROTH just a long well done track w good vibes. I was a bit surprised at the abrupt ending of Asha's track.

Well done both of you!
Asha thx for the vote!

Was outta town for my b day. But I will try to break up the tie with a 4th vote when i get off in a couple hours.

Had to send my 303 for repairs RCAs:( and sent my 404 Og along with it. But going to try to get down on the next one with my mk2, but as ROTH said it lacks the SAUCE compared to the older line!

My 2 cents is that it is tough to get started here for new users, and it hella easy to get locked out. but everyone loggin in for the SLF Olympics counters my argument pretty quick

Yeah, can someone explain that to me? I saw some of the posts but didn't understand what it was all about or what you were supposed to do for it. Went completely over my head, lol.

The lack of votes is getting tedious. If it keeps up like this we could just start tossing a coin for the winner.

Yeah its really disappointing! For me its a great outlet for making beats with a purpose and the limitations I find it easier to come up with something because of limited sample choice compared to just finding samples and coming up with something! Hopefully more next round! Im happy to give ROTH a break from picking and nominate OM!

Same. I don't think I've made a non-competition track in years, since I sold my tasty gear and decks/vinyl. Especially with the SP and sampling from youtube, I find it really hard to make tracks without a "reason", and especially since I stopped schmokin' da ganj and got over my ex, I haven't had the inspiration other than the reason of the battles. Like you say, you're given the samples and the time limitation and that focuses you and that keeps you busy for a week. Or 3. Which reminds me...I reckon it'd do better if the turnover was quicker...or maybe run 2 at once? Each comp taking 3 or 4 weeks would put me off sometimes.

Occasionally a whole bunch of people seem to show up...but it's like if they don't get any/many votes, they duck out again.

Speaking of which... I'm afraid I'm gonna make a bad situation worse and duck out now myself. It is kinda annoying to put effort into your track or, if you win, selecting the samples, and not many show up to get involved. It would be so cool to have 8+ entries every time and get to hear people's different styles and have different winners each time and so get different types of samples put up for use for each comp...but that seems more and more rare, so it seems more and more pointless. Props to Asha and Om and Sleepy in particular for keeping it alive recently.

Altho the main reason is that one of the comp themes I put up recently gave me an idea for an album so FINALLY I have the motivation to do something off my own bat again and I'll find it hard to split my focus, so...

Maybe, however, with the advent of the MkII, the SP thing is just dead now? Or is it a coincidence that most of the old regulars dropped off as soon as they got their MkIIs...? SPs just aren't SP enough to be SPecial in their own way anymore...?

Agree w you both gives me a reason to make a track. I could not do it any quicker at least not lately. I hear you ROTH you going to focus on an album- that's great! Thx Asha for the nomination. I'd continue even if there was no voting. Good therapy for me rn been through a ginormous amt of grief and breakup etc these past few months.

I've got too much going on right now and my turntable is broken or I'd do it. I say it is open season to whomever wants to post 381 up. Go for it if you feel it.
