Very nice tracks! I'd like to know the names. I knocked one out on the 505. I sampled from all tracks but did not end up using them all. I still haven't fully "clicked in" with the 505. (I may do another mix- digging it would be nice to put some more time into it.) https://soundcloud.com/clifford-novey/s ... al_sharing |

I personally reckon that battles that go on and on are part of what puts people off. |

Cool, I started spending more on mine (inspired by the samples I'm using) but may not have it ready by tonight. I got a basic one submitted anyway so that's a win. ![]() |

I meant just in general, not necessarily this time. You get your entry in in time for a week or two week long comp and then have to wait around an extra week or whatever for the laggers before even the vote gets set up, wait for that week to pass and then it's another couplafew days for the winner to find samples and a new comp gets posted. If it was a tight, regular, say, 7 day comp with 3 day vote, I reckon more people would get involved, coz there's always a new comp to jump in on only a few days away, rather than knowing you'll have to wait weeks if you bother making an entry and then having to check back. Ya dig? |

My new/final submission. Samples inspired me to make a longer and simpler track. Good reminder of how much the right material can inspire hours of work/creativity. https://youtu.be/mI_jQFGthJk https://on.soundcloud.com/cHjUDmWTWYZyUvZb7 1 pattern w 4 parts manually muting/unmuting during recording (recorded from 505 to a zoom h2n to Reaper DAW). Ran into major issue recording parts of a pattern as they would not stay muted during rec and is a deal breaker. I don't recall running into this before but relied mostly on patters for variations not parts/mutes. I resampled a bunch. Synth pads had chromatic pitch shift, added echo/delay to some with real time tweaking to make nice tails and extend the samples, nod to Boards Of Canada using ring mod on vocals, played tamborine like sound using 2 pads at diff levels (comes in occasionally and took a lot of rec/delete w diff quantize until I finally just played them live bc only way to get the laid back feel/swing right), eq on some samples, vinyl sim here and there and on the voc/flute break that happens 2x. Nice combo of mono/stereo samples. Only thing I would fix is the 2nd break which comes in a tiny bit early but didn't feel like doing the performance over. The breaks were a pattern stop/sample trigger at same time, reset pattern, adjust muted parts, play pattern, maybe play pads live, etc. The live performance method is fun I've always enjoyed it. Reminds me of mixdowns before there was automation and sometimes multiple people were needed to ride faders etc during a mixdown. (think 60s/70s analog tape era). |
