u don’t have to, just make it known what ur votes were so they can be counted fairly, still nothing wrong with giving reason

Not that it makes a difference with all the alt accounts on here anyway

Yeah I used to write a little sentance about my thoughts on each beat but got little time these days!! I think as long as you can see who has voted it can highlight any dodgy votes!

the rule is really just to say who you voted for so there's accountability

i voted for k.loor, galochin, and bandit lu

k.loor was my fav, gave me lord finesse vibes, very classy

great submissions everyone!

Well, that's ok then as long as no one's secretly laughing behind my back saying stuff like:

"Hey y'all, check out da homie SP-USER be spinin' yarn 'bout da beats he been votin' when there ain't no one here be givin' a shit!"

Gotta say, I really appreciate the feedback. So at the risk of sounding like a right mug, i'ma keep on with it.

But first, thanks for the notes on the low end, jaytreaze — I mix in headphones because I'm a terrible person and I've often fattened up the bottom to my liking only to realize I've irrevocably muddied things up when I listen on speakers. I've gotten a bit gun shy I guess.

Anyway, votes (in no particular order):

k-loor: hypnotic bass, melody that ebbed and flowed, and i laughed at the punchline at the end. some variety in the hats would be worthwhile though.

asha c: loved the accacciatura on the drone, the aching-to-be-free melody was an excellent counterpoint to the grinding percussion and the military snare rolls at the end helped seal the gritty dystopian industrial revolution vibe.

zindan: for proving that you CAN make good tracks with the resample method... breaks in the beat complemented the a cappella (sometimes a cappella feel like an afterthought, i often don't like them), i dug the chords that you created for the chorus (e.g. at 0:30) and those were some seriously grimy and hard-hitting snare rolls.

Solid submissions all around.

Voted Lu Zishen for his dirty beat, with this great threatening vibe. Love, how he chopped up the bass and used the samples.

Second vote goes to Waywardpressman, he often gets his beats sounding very unique and abstracted from sampled source, i like that. His wanky groove catches me this time a lot. And this scratching is great.

Third vote goes to selga, because of Dirtyness of the beat and beat and rap fit really well together.

ay tysm man means a lot <3 [i didn't really create the chords but i get what u mean, everything came from the same sample besides the drum break, those chords were in the intro right before the horn and bass came in, chopped them up, put two of them in reverse, put delay on all of them, then resampled the beat while triggering em]

everyone else who gave me a vote too, thank you all so much <3

so, since this is your SPBB, TGN, what do you want to do about the results?

Ha, it's a draw again! :D

Congratulations to both of you, Zindan and Waywardpressman! 8)

So, how we want to go on, when there has to be only one?
I personal love to work it out 'till the end. And the sample material is huge.
How about a high noon shootout between you two? Same rules, but time is limited to 3 days.

Your opinions? Others?

If you both want to proceed and setup a new beat battle, this would be ok for me, too.

Since no one's stepped forward with a suggestion I reckon you should subject them both to the SLT (Sellers Lift Test).

First one to laugh loses

a new poll with just me and wayward would be easier, but i'm down for a one on one beat battle i guess? if that's TGN's prescription bc it is his SPBB

as long as it's not onboard resample only

Down with a short playoff battle, new poll or anything really. Just wondering about other members — don't want to hijack the board with a one-on-one if people want to get back to battling.

I will concede that Zindan's piece showed superior technical skills though — if we tie on artistic merit, maybe technique is the tiebreaker? In which case I'd ask, as a consolation prize, for a rule allowing use of an external instrument in the next battle.

TGN — do whatever you think is best and I'll go along with it.

And thanks everyone for listening, voting and commenting.

Ah ok, thought you might have used the chromatic PS to make those chords. Which is an almighty pain in the ass! During this battle, I accidentally deleted a chord I'd made and could not for the life of me get it sounding right again (I'd run the sample through MFX20 twice to get the original and couldn't remember how I'd tuned it for the intermediate stage).

Appreciate your recipe.

EDIT: Personally I +1 Zindan's suggestion!

I think a battle with the same samples between the tying winners!

Battle for two, using chops from all given samples..
