You're very rude to your fellow beat-makers, Zindan.

So far you've blamed the English used by TGN even though he communicates in English with 100% fluency. You've criticised my own grasp of technology even though I design and develop audio-related hardware. You've managed to make workflows used by J Dilla look like the choice of amateurs, and now you're attacking perfectly good submissions while telling us all you were never going to submit a beat anyway, effectively telling us all you trashed the thread for nothing.

You need to start showing your fellow beat makers some respect bro

j dilla sequenced all his beats, dipshit

i never said TGN communicated his own thoughts poorly, i said that's why he didn't understand what i was explaining to him

you're an engineer? yeah i'll add that to my list of things that have never/will never happen    you couldn't successfully operate a roll of toilet paper

I never said he didn't sequence, "dipshit", what I meant was he used to avoid the grid, he would avoid quantization, he used to play live and resample it, he's famous for it, dipshit. But hey, don't mind me, I'll happily admit I'm an epic novice when it comes to Hip-Hop, you're supposed to be the expert here, not me.

You're an expert in bullshit I know that

Weird tangent here, but from what I remember or heard, he made most of his body of work on the mpc3000. The sp1200 was early in his career and the sp303 was late while he was bedridden.

His swing can be achieved with sequencers by just upping the bpm for higher resolution steps and swing settings. Or you can give space in your drum hits to emulate the swing if you’re limited in grid resolution. It’s not really anything crazy to do these days.

I sorta agree that the resample method is a lazy way to make beats. But that’s the charm of it. For me it just pushes me to move on rather than over tinker and correct. I generally don’t do serious work via only the resampling method unless that’s the concept for the project.

Personally I'm just going by what I heard in a documentary. Coming into the Hip-Hop scene with no knowledge of it whatsoever like I have, I started looking into people who's names would pop up quite a lot, and J Dilla was one of them so I watched a documentary or two about him. That must be 18 months ago now, but I'm pretty sure that one of his respected traits was that he avoided sequencer quantization at all costs.

If not, I must be thinking of someone else (but I don't think I am).

I don’t think unquantized programming/playing drums is anything special and definitely was NOT a major attribute that made dilla special.

Any practiced musician can play their instrument unquantized or off grid.

True, but it was a documentary I watched, and documentaries often glorify the talents of who they're about anyway. I'd never even heard of J Dilla until recent years, and I'm pretty sure this stuff I heard was about him cause I don't recall watching documentaries on any other Hip-Hop artist out there apart from I've dug into videos about Necro a few times, but I know it's not him I'm thinking of here.

Maybe it's something I picked-up in the comment sections of J Dilla videos on YouTube, I dunno.

Here's mine: https://soundcloud.com/waywardpressman/the-wayward-pressman-spbb331

Created via the hack for amateurs method. As such, it is most definitely and audibly unquantized.

At what point does a desirable "human" feel cross the line into just plain sloppiness? At what point does a desirable driftiness in pitch cross the line into being just plain out of tune? The drums and bass on this track may provide some insight...

Was definitely lazy with a two-bar drum loop for the A section, but tried to make up for it with an eight-bar loop for the B section. I also used the pitch shift to "scratch" a sax stab for the B section melody — something achievable with the sequencer but a heck of a lot easier to pull off with resample.

lu zhishen, thank you for backing me up and explaining that so i don't need to

and no, sp-user, you aren't thinking of someone else
using a sequencer doesn't mean using quantization, dipshit

Oh yes, and where exactly did I say it does, pray tell?

Time for your therapy again, the trick this time is to concentrate on the heads in the lampshades whenever they appear and it will make you happy again. But there are hurdles, for one must never get distracted by the naked zebra girl dancing at 1000 BPM:

And before you say anything, it's one of my all time favourite tracks that is, so watch your step!
So catchy, so lively, so theatrical, so fucking cool 8)

Personally I think you should do what Lifted Noise did and put it on here:
https://odysee.com/@LiftedNoise:5?view=content

It's decentralised, perfect for what you want, and could become your permanent home for uploading beats and sharing links on the forum without fear of some establishment-owned company removing them. Not even odysee can remove it from the blockchain and they own the site, Odysee is basically just a front end for the system it uses. I think everyone should use this type of site because the difference between those who do and and those who don't, is that those who do will still have a channel no matter what happens on YouTube, now or in the future, and that should matter to any artist who values their web presence.

Simple as that:
