On 404 day Roland dropped this contest. I want to see all forums members make the cut for the tape yo! I was surprised to see no one has posted about it on here so I took it upon myself. You can use the royalty free packs they offer or anything you have rights to. Tune into dibiase masterclass tomorrow. I’m pretty sure you can use any Roland or boss sp btw. The only real solid rule is that all samples should be royalty free. Also since they mentioned posting to Twitter, Instagram and Youtube they're looking for like some live performance type shit. I'm terrible at live performance and I can barely make a beat using an SP alone, I rely heavily on PC and other gear. anyways I did as much as i could on the SP and then Ableton fuckery came along. But i'd say this beat is like 80% SP made cuz I tracked it out and added a roll and some eq reverb stuff to make it sound better. Fuck it I had fun. Curious to see what some of the online SP "Pros" dish out. Good looking out MR.Durdy |

I think Dirty's idea of having an internal comp is great. The roland comp is b/s if you are a "winner" in the top 16 you win a copy of a cassette tape and a 404 skin. But and big butt here you have to sign over all rights to your song to Roland (hence copyright free material). Below is taken from the terms and conditions. I'm willing to bet the "judges" are not doing this for a copy of a crappy tape. Roland could of at least handed out a 404 to the top winner. 5. PRIZES 5.1. The sixteen selected winners of the Contest will each receive: • One custom screen-printed #SPBEATTAPE cassette • One custom skin and case for the Roland SP-404 5.6. Finalists will be required to sign and return to Sponsor an Eligibility/Talent & Liability Release which will include, among other things, “work made for hire”/transfer of copyright agreement Edit: Devee that beat is dope as fuck! |
