Welcome to the SPBB #285 fam!
Wanna thank you all for the votes and kind words, and shout out to Dutch for hosting an amazing ride!
Now let's get right into it

Drums :

I'm putting Herb's entire clinic set not just because he's a great drummer (among top 10 imho) but mostly because of his style - there are some interesting patterns I think you could use, but in any case you'll have enough drum sounds to choose from.

For those of you wanting to get a bit freaky (sound wise) here's a track from the latest album of one of my all time favourite producers :

And one of his earlier works -

And for those among you leaning towards more traditional chopping sounds:

RULES :
- No outside samples, use only the ones provided
- You can add instruments (keys, bass, guitar, etc) if you feel the need for it, but you must play it.
- Vocals and rapping (a capella) allowed. Same goes for movie snippets, speech and such.
- SP only, multiple SP's allowed. No DAW.
- No time limit

Poll goes up in ten days

Peace!

BIG EDIT

Sorry for being indecisive - or something...
I removed the youtube vid. The sound was too murky. I felt that allready when uploading. This is why I made a quick "remix/remake".
Out comes water - ver 2 (SPBB285)
https://app.box.com/s/cg1g7eeihsndu3v9cveqegj03ncty6ys

Technical discussion. Why did I do a version 2? I discovered that using compression on and that "naturally reverbed" drums didn't work for me. You need silence between the drum sounds for compression to work okay. And I felt that I needed to filter out low frequencies on the Amon Tobin sample. The beat ended up murky.
Old version for reference https://app.box.com/s/t8pn06tnmify7ry5e9om0tc1b3lnm59d

Still one sp-404sx. Making loops. Resample. But in ver 2 I used a bass sound from the track.

Dope bro!
I'm loving it!

Hm... You could be right about the drums though, I wasn't thinking about that natural reverb tbh, and that could be a bit of a bummer - when it comes to processing it.. I was concentrated more on the patterns and all the different drum parts he uses throughout (btw I'm a big Primus fan), I kinda overlooked that fact.
Haven't even tried to cut and flip it, I'm off touring next couple of days - so I won't be joining you guys this battle, but I'll check it regularly.

Nice work on the AT sample too!

We all have the same samples to work with.
We are the SP-FORCE! Nothing is impossible!

finally had the balls to participate in one of these!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUy8X85VAM4

I used the Johnny Hodges/Ben Webster as my main source of chops. I used the drum video(agreed this was a bit difficult, but after lots of effects and manipulating got it) I took a kick, a hat/snare roll, and a single snare hit for the drums. I recorded the beat making straight into my camera, played the file on my PC back into the SP and then into the effects video.

I didn't realize until after I finished publishing the video, that it was already discussed bouncing the beat out of the SP and back into it was against the rules...not sure if it was discussed further other than the main rules thread, but I put in all the work, figured I'd still post it. If anyone has any objections and if it breaks the rules, totally understand! Appreciate any view/listens and critique regardless. and now know for next time.

Nah, it's OK man... As long as you're using bouncing for something like that, or just for compression /limiting - I don't think anyone would mind (I won't). Just as long as it's not sequencing and panning / leveling of different tracks.,or using the VSTs

Nice work, yo. Good to have you in the arena, the more the merrier :) Now you two got me itching hah maybe I'll try to pull one quick today while on the road..

Welcome john_mckale! Nice submission.

Yep, I think bouncing is okay as long as you dont do any external editing. Think "bounce to tape".

Where is everyone?! Concentrating on Mixtape Marathon :?: I want some more beats in this battle.

Do it! it was a fun challenge working with the drums! Cant wait to hear!

Appreciate the listens! All I used externally was bouncing, no mixing or editing outside of the SP!

Look forward/hoping for others coming in tomorrow!
