Anyone wanna fire up some $5 marathons again?

Quick rundown of the original rules

Up to $5 worth of purchased records (or tapes) ... no giveaways/freebies. Must b something u purchased in person from a place that sells records.

15 minutes of original music arranged in mixtape/LP fashion.

Full Marathon - no outside drums or bass, all SP.

Half Marathon - outside drums & bass OK. Additional hardware OK.

Maybe shoot to have it done a month after we start or something? Little summer project.

Sick, good to see you're down Bazz, was hoping to get like 4-5 people confirmed before starting up.

@Zendan, for sure, I was hoping to swing by the next spbb too, so I'll be doing both if we get enough people in here.

Bump.

I'm down dependent on the terms and time frame.

If it's cool with you and Bazz I propose that in the full marathon be as/is but with whatever machine one wants to use.

And the half marathon not only can bass, drums and accapella be used but also synth (like a monotron for example).

I think the last one ended up running for around 3 months or so.
You might want to correspond with Bazz and post up the Challenge.

I think you can get at least a few heads that would be down for this again.
Glad you brought it back as obviously Bazz is sleepin' on this shit!!

Hey Crane,
Yeah, figured we could all agree on a timeline together, whatever you guys think it'll take.
As for half marathon Gear I'm for sure up for using some additional shit.

I'm down, but since my currency isn't dollar, the 5$ is very weird. It translates to 20R$ and you can buy one vinyl and a half with that money if you're lucky lol.

@Crane... I see you player!

@SLVG... I don't want to step on your toes my dude. Assuming you are good with this moving forward by all means, I'm gonna run with the ball for a minute.

Backstory: about a week before this thread popped up I was telling the homie Crane that we should bring back the mixtape challenge. It's a great time to set our sights on getting some shit done before the end of summer. SLVG, your timing is impeccable!

Here is a slightly modified proposal for the rules this time around...

Open Instrumentation... use an SP prominently in your production flow. Aside from that, anything goes... but be prepared to share your production methods, at least a general explanation of what you used and how.

Open Budget... $15 sounds like a good place to top out, but seriously... I don't think this needs to be a big deal. Extra props for keeping it low, and of course we all love to hear good digging stories.

Runtime... this is a major requirement that must be met. Minimum of 13 minutes for the half marathon (which is the approximate mileage of a half marathon race). Minimum of 20 minutes for the full.

Ultra Marathon... Minimum of 20 minutes, all SP, no outside drums! This one takes a lot of guts! Will anyone complete the Ultra?!

Learning Factor... This was a big part of the original challenge. Aside from a few mixtape vets who blessed the last competition, most of us were breaking new ground. The spirit of this challenge is about supporting your fellow competitors across the finish line! Of course we will still vote and crown a champ... pause to interject props to lif for garnering the most votes last time around and giving us this gem: https://l-i-f.bandcamp.com/album/marathon-fyv-dolah-mixxtape. So, learning factor... 1. completing said quantity of music at the highest level possible, using blends and transitions, controlling the pace of the project, and incorporating a narrative element; and 2. Publishing finished mixtape to a mainstream outlet of digital distribution, like Spotify. This will be an area where some have more experience than others. We can discuss pros and cons of various options throughout the process, and prop each other up to make sure every competitor crosses the finish line. At the end of the day we will all have a significant piece of work to hang our hats on!

What do you guys think? Is this a good framework to build on? I think the additional focus on publishing/distributing these offerings will be helpful for a lot of people. Any questions or concerns... dreams or aspirations not being addressed? If this is generally agreeable to the group I will go ahead and post the official thread, and we can commence.

Bazz killed it. I'm down for that format.

@Ghost Bazz Yeah all good, I like the format you've got in mind. Really the best part of it all is seeing something from start to finish with a pool of peers. Let's do it
