Was diggin in the tapes and found this gem. https://app.box.com/s/wpxpdk4eocu4z2ye70u5wom2x4v25gad Edit: I couldn't decide between two tracks, so I added the second... Also from the same tape. Let's go with traditional battle rules... 1 SP only... outside acapellas are OK... DAW OK for final mastering and EQ. Deadline is Wed., 11/16 @ midnight PST... but flexible as always. Who will fulfill the Shaolin Prophesy... ?! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Both songs have a good amount of that old cassette sound to them. I think it's a nice amount of degradation, but I realize it's not everyone's flavor. If you guys would prefer something cleaner, I can add another option. |

< NON-ENTRY > ::https:: ///soundcloud.com/// l i f - LOOSE.ctrl < NON-ENTRY > For the nerds: drums chopped on 808, samps chopped on 404sx, live-jammed the 32-or-wtvr bars using 808's line-in resample, then beat-matched halftime drums to acapella and out to Tascam 224. Resampled tape to 404sx thru the 303 vinyl sim compression then 2 or 3 resample-passes in 404 with extra effects. Mastered in Adobe Audition to centre the bass freq below 150htz, add a little high end eq, normalise and shave off 2db of the peaks with a hard-limiter. |

Is it just that the final beat has to be made on a single SP and we can use other SP's for processing samples? |

Is it just that the final beat has to be made on a single SP and we can use other SP's for processing samples? My bad... I usually read the rules. Not this time, obviously. Was keen to use the 808 to do pitch-work on the samples (because there really isn't much of interest in there for me, tbh) but when i resample on the 808 my zip drive has a tendency to glitch badly so I invariably have to bounce shit out to tape or another sp. I'm happy to call it a non-entry. The rules were very clear! Thanks for the heads-up!! |

It's all good man. I just asked out of curiosity and hoped that it's cool to use other SP's for processing. Love my new 404SX but the compression of the vinyl sim on the 303 is unbeatable ![]() |

You're right about the 303 vinyl sim.. it is def. NOT underrated..!! |

You're right about the 303 vinyl sim.. it is def. NOT underrated..!! The single SP rule comes from more of a skills-test mentality. It challenges people to better learn all the nooks and crannies of their machines. It's how I've learned to get the most out of every SP unit I've had. Back in the day, it's how all the battles in here were... Usually 1 track, no outside drums... Find drums or get creative w ur percussion. It always amazed me that cats could get down on a 303 and make stuff as sick as people working on the newer models. I really enjoy that format, but I totally understand that it might feel constricting to some, and it's really about having fun and keeping participation up. Long story short, let's just call it "normal battle rules" and peeps can get down how they usually do it! ![]() Open Challenges should continue to roll though... Which provides an opportunity to incorporate your entire arsenal in unrestrained creative madness. ![]() |

Not constricting at all - I can totally get behind this, the one SP rule isn't an issue for me... I like having strict rules in a battle; it's just like I said, I didn't bother reading the rules this time ![]() Count Sierackula wrote: Long story short, let's just call it "normal battle rules" and peeps can get down how they usually do it! 8 Your call if you wanna switch it up, but don't do it for my sake...! In fact i might just see if those breaks and samples talk to me thru the 303 now that you've thrown down the gauntlet.. |
