! M U S I C !

Regards editing.. i try and play a piece with an eye on the clock while I'm recording; if i go overtime, if it doesn't ruin the track too much I'll cut off the end(s) to fit with the DAW at the normalising-stage, or I'll try it again to bang out a tighter composition; or sometimes resample to the sp and speed it up a bit with the vari-pitch if I like the flow and can get it under 60 seconds that way and it still sounds good..

I don't chop out of the middle, which is the only thing I would consider a cheat-move. This aspect hasn't really been discussed, actually.

hmm, i dont see any problem if you wanna chop your sample before you throw it in to the sp,
or if you wanna chop your beat after,
to make sure it stays in the 1min mark

that is OK

yeah, no outside processing (eq, comp, fx, ect.) for sure.

RULE 6 STATES:
Only 1 SP, entries must be not longer than 1 min. Bouncing to an external recorder permitted. No external audio processing such as EQ, Comp, etc. Multiple entries allowed.
_

normalizing is a tough one since, 'normalizing' usually means a gain increase

i know some normalizing plugins even use dynamic compressors to stop the track from peaking

also, since a gain increase would also mean a higher S/N ratio and a greater dynamic range
i would definitely consider this 'processing'

however this is such a minute and technical issue,, i really dont give a fuk (and im pretty sure no one else will)

lets just say for future reference, that no external normalizing is allowed

but since this hasnt been discussed yet, im gonna say that l i f has NOT broken any rules this round (especially since im SURE some others have used this same process on their past entries)

make sense and sound fair ??
feel free to critique (this is only the 5th mb so far so theres gonna be a lot of wrinkles to iron out)

peace

Arite, i should make myself clearer. There's a difference between 'chopping' samples to the sp, and making edits to a finished track. I meant the latter and assumed GalKatz meant that. If the actual question was do we have to take our samples-chops from the streaming box-player, well.. i download the files, sometimes... othertimes sample the stream.

I was talking specifically about post-production and staying under a minute and "if you wanna chop your beat after, to make sure it's in the 1 min mark" that i might trim off the end, but I would never take any performance-edits from the middle to make a 1min track.

This is moot, mate.

Think about the first half here - there's a difference in sound-quality between the samples if theyre uploaded as wav or mp3.
Then we can sample direct from the streaming player or choose to download the tracks.
We can choose what volume level to send the samples into the sp - i can crank the volume on my laptop and line-in on the sp or I can go in clean.
We're allowed to bounce to an external recorder - if i was using tape I'd be saturating it.

We upload a file to soundcloud which fxx with a file in it's own way. Mp3's encoded at different rates react differently to sc's settings. the chain is long, even for a microwave.
