Thanks for the votes guys, hopefully we'll get a bunch of entries again this battle! There are 8 samples here... you don't have to use all of them but I chose these one-shot types to encourage layering/pitching. Drums are a bit weak too so work them FX! Multiple SPs and tape bouncing allowed. No outside samples/snyths, but acapellas/watermarks allowed. For now I'll set the deadline for July 6th, 21:00 Pacific time. Have fun! https://app.box.com/s/chtpvn90sg1elp5g6fgph0ywglpchk84 |

It's not a problem if you want some different samples, I can find something else... |

Hm, i think the samples are hot! Some wikked cool synth-y tones, electronics and sorta avant-garde-y 60's and 70's shit... the drums are mbe hard to make typical boom-bappppy but battle is about creativity right...?? I'm buzzed to give this one a go with the challenge of using all eight elements. The first sample, the improv-drum solo is driving me nuts trying to guess who it is... the playing and the kit sounds exactly like John Stevens but the groan doesn't quite sound like him... is it Milford Graves mbe? |

I edited the rules at top of this thread^^, no disqualification for multiple SPs, all good. @PlebMan, I know you can bring the heat! @ l i f, wish I knew the source of the drums... these samples came from the experimental/electronic vinyl collection at the University of Washington. Last year I made friends with the library staff and they let me use their listening room. I brought my 404 in there and went crazy... the records were imported from all over, so... many times I couldn't even read the sleeves haha. |

I'm totally kicking myself, the Gothenburg library was selling off all their vinyl in 2000 and I bought what I could (which included an Eric Dolphy with the Mingus group live disc which could be like a bootleg or something - never seen it listed anywhere else) but lacked the funds to get more... ... and later when the Wellington NZ library got rid of their stocks, holy crap they had some gems (so many Stockhausen and Sun Ra albums, early experimental electronics from the 50's, John Appleton and Don Cherry ahh) but the heat was too much from other heads and I just missed out, but had enough time before they went all-CD to dub a crapload to cassette at least. Again, these samples are great and the new rules should ensure some diverse subs... hope I get some time to work on it b4 deadline - finding it real hard to work while on summer break, too easy to lay flat out on my back at the lake baking in the sun ![]() |
