Here's where my votes went this round:

A- Vote went to Pikachu for this one, really dug the vibe of the track. Props to you as well yoshi!

B- Vote went to Ness for this round, really liked the drums and all the glitches.

C- Vote went to Solid Snake for this round, really like how the drums flow so perfectly with the sample, definitely will listening to it again. Solid flip though Kirby!

D- Vote went to Turrican for this round, really liked how your track built up. That was a sick flip though Captain Falcon just thought it got a bit repetitive.

Pikachu vs. Yoshi -> Yoshi. Fucking loved how the breaks accented the musical elements so well. Pikachu had nice atmosphere, but my head was nodding more with Yoshi's dino breaks.

Kirby vs. Solid Snake -> Solid Snake Loved the hard hitting feel of Snake's track. Kirby's was good, but again going by pure head noddin', I was only needing a neck brace from kirby's track, Snake's track was done and I checked myself into a hospital.

Captain Falcon vs. Turrican -> Captain Falcon While Falcon's flip went on a smidge too long, I liked the overall feeling of it. Turrican's track was a solid flip and had nice use of musical elements moved around the break was tough, but overall I enjoyed Falcon's overall feel in his track.

Awesome round, doods! :)

damn some awesome entries here

pikachu vs. yoshi
pika - my fav beat of the round. pika sounds pretty insane at the beginning and the beat is just flat out sinister. gave me chills. liked the drum pattern too it was very fresh
yoshi - that was a banger i also enjoyed what yuou did past the halfway mark - beat was very well done but i just thought pika's had a lot more charm
winner: pika

Ness vs. Prince poo
Ness - like all the various paths you took this beat in. The drum play here was very cool. A lot of good variety in here.
Prince Poo - I really loved the melody you went with here. Tough call here because I thought Ness's beat had more flavour... Loved that prince poo melody though... Very close to a tie but going with Ness
winner: Ness

Captain Falcon vs. Turrican
Falcon -This beat was a kick to the face straight up. Everything about this is raw. Really enjoyed the effects and the subtle change ups at the end of the bars. I just look at the captain falcon image doing the fire punch and this is the beat that describes it best
Turrican - This one was a nice spin on the starfox sample itself. Gave me an early 90's vibe too .. "show me your moves!" lol..thought the groove was there but Captain Falcon's beat was was stronger in my opinion
winner: Captain Falcon

Kirby - Very funny how we used the same intro lol.. i cut otacon off a little early tho:) I enjoyed your use of bass in the beat...something that may have been lacking in mine

Snake - both beats were a bit repetitive but yours stood out more to me.

Turrican - loved those drums

thanx for the votes eventhough i don't quite get it... :)
druggy trip it was :? maybe i'll understand later..

very close matches on this one - sorry for not commenting on your beats guys; it got quit late...

my waxbox shows me a lot of downloads; i will wrap all beats into one compilation once the tourney is finished; id-tags incl.

like i told you, we got 2x 8bit samples left + the turrican theme + solid snake for the final..
i thought it would be well balanced to take the turrican theme for the bronze match and do a coin flip for the 8 bit samples for the semi-final...
what do you think?

..so it basicly goes 8bit+16bit for everybody that survives round2... i guess it's quit obvious that when you loose the semi-final that you're going down for the bronze battle... i put in bronze, so we get usage of all 16 samples and i thought it might be fun to hear 2 more joints by some smash pro's... it's hard to keep attention on this for more then a month that's why i limited shit to 16 players also...

i'm already scripting a new one (in my head) -how about a cartoon tourney?
e.g. krusty vs fred flintstone battling on the scooby doo theme / same way in setting stuff up but with a loosers round, so that even if you dropped you still can fight yourself back in the tourney...
...but this is future shit... just finished round 2 on this one!

keep on voting!!

I'm down but I'm falling behind on projects for friends by participating, but I'd definitely be interested in seeing how future battles go.

Have you thought about team battles? Like pairs of beat maestros are paired up by a draw of numbers or something and then pairs battle pairs. Two samples per round per match up...2 samples will be given to each pair so that basically 2 battles on two separate samples happen at once, but it's TOTAL votes for the team that lets them advance. Cooperation between the two members could be allowed (i.e. if Batman had a cool idea for a flip of robin's sample, he could do a quick sketch and then Robin could take over and finish it up and make it complete, etc.)

Just an idea. It could be cool. Maybe it could even be based on famous duos (like Batman and Robin, Starskey and Hutch, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Tango & Cash, Riggs and Murtaugh, Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte from 48 Hours (idk their names), etc. etc. )

It would be neat and would allow more participants to join without making the tourney longer than regular 16 dudes.

[Edit] Then, the final FINAL round would be something along the lines of Double Dragon 1...the duo must fight each other to find out who's the BADDEST BEAT MAKER!

yeah.. i'd been thinking of tag teams as well.. it's just that this inquires a lot more interaction by the participants... pm forth and back... different time zones... but still it could be a cool start up in collaborations as well..
more people / still just a month to go or sth ... good point!

look what i just stumbled across:

A - this one goes to Kel, a more atmospheric and interesting beat. Yoshi's beat was a bit too simple, drums really need more twisting

B - really tough decision to make. IIIII's got the ill bassline and stuttery drops, and Hseiken got really arena electronica vibe. had to listen to these a few times to decide, but it goes to Hseiken

C - I'mOnlySleeping got a nice groove going, little vocal snippets nice too plus off-beat stabs. I gotta give my vote to Teewok though, just feeling his beat more.

D - Age has a nice gritty, crunchy vibe to his beat, gets kind of repetitive though. Wax got nice overall sound, top end is interesting and atmospheric. drum have a nice 'verby sound but feels like an unchopped loop. felt both these beats were too short, maybe a tricky sample to use? vote goes to Wax

Pika vs Yoshi: Pikachu. Hard to pick, really liked the dark vibe in Yoshi's beat & the well handled drums. The change ups were great too. Ended up going with Pika because it was the more flashy entry.

Ness vs Poo: Ness. Damn, another hard choice. Both tracks were dope. Ness' shuffled rhythm & filtered melodic drop ins are killer. Super compressed sound though. Poo had a gnarly, creepy vibe that normally I'd vote for but again this vote's for the more flashy entry.

Kirby vs Snake: Snake. Kirby- production was a little quiet (hidden behind the drums) & short, could've used a little more. Great use of FX though. Snake had it with the turnarounds, arps & better balanced sound. I'm a sucker for arpeggios.

Falcon vs Turrican: Falc. Whoah, Falc came out swinging there. The additional bits came in at the right point, but a change up wouldn't have hurt this one. Turrican's track was a little too short for my liking, the kind of sound was weird for what folks normally make with an SP too (nice change). Very 80s edge to it.

I'm glad to have participated in this battle. I don't really have much too say about everyone's beats. You all seem well seasoned with the SP. Its so interesting to see how everyone uses theirs so well. Ive only had my OG404 since November, I've just been wondering is it obvious?
This is definitely a great idea of making a beat battle even more fun. Definitely should be more crazy things like this in the future.

Love these boards....SP-Forums is so dope lol
