Damn Holmes that was one of the best beats I've ever heard but everyone had sick beats. Holmes what do you record with?.

Cheers man. It was one of those tunes that was a real struggle at first but perseverance paid off... Probably couldn't have done it if the battle had only been one week long!

I recorded into Logic through an Edirol FA-66 interface and did a bit of mastering using Izotope Ozone (a sick all-in-one mastering plug-in).

plexxsounds- you did an ill job of isolating the drums- sick melody too.

mostblunted- sick melody, it sounds kinda like a game from NES.

Drewzle- nice use of fx. its cool how you kept it the same style of music but completely flipped the original.

jbl- flipped it nice- real catchy melody

Holmes- drum hits fit your beat good- like the melody a lot and the switch ups and the stereo FX.

It was so close I thought about not voting at all- also I'm not the best judge for this style of music. I voted mostblunted, I felt like it was 1990 and i had a game controller in my hand.

holmes- just fire!
drewzle- were we working together?
most blunted-?????? coo coo 4 cheeba puffs????? i 8)
juxt-very catchy
plexx-it was over too quick, snap

if i vote 4 holmes he has to promise to not have his next song mastered b4 he puts it in the battle!

plexxsounds - Really crisp mix, nice filtering and award for most original snare sound!

juxt - ...but juxt gets award for 'best' snare - very snappy and great use of reverb (something I have yet to use successfullly!) Also, probably the mix that twists it furthest away from the original.

mostblunted - Tight groove, really nice flange/phase (can't quite work out which) Nice bass too.

Drewzie - Twisted deep house! nice. Props for doing a live jam thing. Might not be super tight in places but there are some really nice ideas in there that you probably wouldn't have come across if it had been planned.

jbl - Nice chops. Like that crazy ring-mod/reverb sound at about 3mins in... Would be cool to do a set and mix this into the original half way through to fuck with people's heads!

Was really interesting to hear what peeps did with this. I think it's good to work with different sources from time to time as it makes you think differently. Hope everyone enjoyed doing it! I'm torn... but am gonna go with plexxsounds.

Um...
Don't mind throwing up a non-mastered version...
Was just multiband compression/eq... and several years practice!

Argh a tough one. First I thought about not voting Holmes coz he seems to be kind of on the next level and stuff :) But I couldn't decide between juxt and mostblunted so Holmes it is.

Cool battle (and my first ever!)

I felt the same way because everyone had really good beats let alone songs made with battle restrictions, but I can't deny Holmes solid beat and nice eq's.

hey peeps,
good job, sorry for my late-ish response.

plex - like the track. like how it has a sort of european trad folk feel to it. good rhythm.
juxt - ol skoo! i like the shots thru out. well done.
bluntz - i'd agree on the vid game comparison. that's pretty cooo. esp like the fx that come in about 2/3s thru.
drewz: this track took FOREVER to load, mans. i donno what's up, but it was still loadin while i listened to everyone else's track. still pretty coooo, i always like the drones and filters, so that's good.
jbl: like the polyrhythms you got going on, liked the skippy/snippy aspects. found the piece a little long tho.
holmes: reminded me of edIT and glitchmob stuffs. there's a lot of peeps rocking this type o sound here in MTL, so i dig it.

holmes gets the fauna vote. nice work tho dudes.
