There's quite a few trippy sounds on Mars Volta's first album. It's all over the internets. I'm sure you can do some clever editing to mask the source if that was a concern of yours. |

Psychadelic is such a loose terminology when it comes to music, anything from the Grateful Dead to Yes, and everything in-between. Most of the acts were just on the verge of discovery into new recording techniques, to create new trippy sounds. (Hendrix was pushing the studio into uncharted territory) All of this tech from flangers to phasers, fuzz boxes to modular moogs synths, can all more or less be considered psychedelic. Today, it's easy peasy to coax these sounds, with all the choices of fx available in your sp's, but to make it sound trippy, you should try to focus on flang, reverb, ring mod, phaser, pitch bending (whatever you prefer, pitch up/down), and it should make anything you create into something very Lysergic. But it's going to take a bit of practice, and experimenting, so just kind of listen to some of whatever is inspiring you, maybe your dad's old hippy vinyl, or perhaps some dub, or something more current, and see what ideas and sounds are ripe for sampling, and then throw everything you want to try at it, and see what comes out. You might even want to consider getting some guitar pedals to affect the sounds into even further madness. |
