Post subject: | All these samples but no beats! |
Hi forum, for the past couple months i've been listening to a lot of different styles of music and gathering up little loops or snippets of songs that i find interesting or inspiring enough to create a beat out of. The tricky part is finding the beat or creating one that will match the tempo of the sample. I don't know how you guys go about this in your own musical process but any info/advice would help. |

man i feel your pain!!! i really do. i think i spent like 6 months straight sampling and makin no beats. but i might be able to help. get simple as hell with it. chop up a sample and bang on em till something comes out, put it to a metronome( you know, tap out the rhythm you were playing the sample) get that loop in a pattern, then go in layers, 1. hats 2. snare 3. kick however order works. then when you got something flowing, take it even further with changes n shit. this is like the most basic way you can go about it. im always thinking so technical, like " it only took that much work to make this" but fuck technical, if its groovin then its all good, and you'll get even more intricate with time and listening to alot of music and analyzing. listen to how other producer enter a breakdown and how many bars is their loop, and what types of effects are on their samples. you know, everything has been done, its just about doing it your way. im always trying to be the next different producer, fuck all that, just do (kie) it and shit comes out:) |
