Sorry folks, bit lost in a haze with good old Wave Converter. I can see that it is very simple in practice but everytime I go to select the 'SP-555 Card Drive' option to my CF card, a message pops up telling me " The Selected Drive Is Not For The SP-555 ". I therefore eject my card, re-format it in the SP-555 and re-try. Once or twice it let me into putting a sample or 2 on a bank but then it begins to mess up, telling me my Wav. file could not be imported. After that the card is back to scratch.
I am really frustrated with this. ANYBODY with any help is more than obliging...

your probably better off just not using the wave converter. ive used it and havent had any problems but its way easier to just sample things then it is to import each file individually. you gotta drop each sample into those pads n shit, its pretty slow process. everyone on here shys away from the wave converter. there are a few post for it, do a search.

thanks for the rapid reply. I really don't mind the lethargy of the Wave Converter software, if only it would work. Sampling is the bee's knee alright. But just on the off-chance, is there another recommended software, like Wave Converter, that works with the 555??

I don't think so. I think that you can drag n drop wave files onto the card but I don't know how, the manual might explain.

searched around on the forums and found Japanese site update link. Sorted out the problem somewhat. Cheers for the words anyways. One more thing. There seems to be almost nothing on sample patterns and quantizing!
The manual speaks in tongues on these matters. Any heads-up?

sorry Hurling, I should've narrowed it down. I am new to the lot but am figuring it out at a reasonable pace. I just can't seem to wrap my head around how to make a sample pattern and/or Quantize a beat made in Loop Capture. I know your eyes may glaze over double-time on reading this but I can't seem to find much on 'how to' around the forum. I wish Roland made a few vidz on these subjects like they did for the 606. Getting started on both these topics seems a head-swell! Any ideas mister?

theres no way to quantize anything in the loop capture

its a looper pedal built into a sampler

so think like you are a guitarist and you have the looper pedal, you build phrases etc

but where the comparison stops is that you can build songs by saving those loops, a feature unavailable on looper pedals, or at least to the same extent of the 555.

true this takes away the performance aspects but it means you can build songs out of looped blocks of performance and stack them up, then loop them together perhaps, and perhaps with more effects etc

its hard to give a "this is the way you do it" like you can with an mpc for example, where they will tell you to chop the sample lay a beat and your done
however
the sky is the limit, you can really do a lot of different things and its hard to say what technique you would use, suffice to say that recording live sessions of loops being triggered by your hands is the most fun.
You can also quantize in the pattern mode, but then sample that into a loop to bring it all back together. It seems, for me anyway, just playing the loops is better than sequencing in the pattern mode.

maybe you should say what style of music or mindset you are in?
