not sure what to think of it.. how much more can it do over the 404 with the same 3 digit display?

maybe it will have layerable patterns and a working timestretch algorithm! thatd be sweet!

Looking closely at the specs, I can't see that this thing is gonna be too expensive - If it's more than $800 australian ($600us) I'll be very surprised.

Apart from 4 extra voices polyphony, every aspect of this machine is cut-down from the 606, so it just can't cost as much! Super Filter? Already on 606! Pads - 606. D-Beam Synth - 606. Pattern Sequencer - Cut down from the 606s; way lless note capacity and no mute buttons (AND WTF no step-record - that's a Roland staple!). Effects - Less than the 606 (37x1 compared to 45x2, so no combo routing). No Multiband Compressor for mastering. Less pad banks. And the loop capture only actually records 15 seconds at a time (big DOH). And RCA connections just plain sucks. I don't see mention of timestretch, but it is implied (it's already on the 606 anyway!).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking this great-looking machine, I just don't think Roland can charge much more than the 404 for it, as it's not that big of an upgrade. It really does seem intended for Techno DJs - for which it will be the ultimate live toy

This is gonna be dope. Forget about a fancy display with waveform etc. If people want that then they should get the 606. But this looks more intuitive than the 606. The 606 does not have the ease of use like the
303, 404 and the 555 does. Thats the charm of the 303/404 series. They are more musical to use-- they feel like an instrument as opposed to the 606. I aint knockin the 606 but its not as quick to use as the 404. I dont understan why people dont like the 3 digit display. Its simple and to the point. like the good ol sp1200.

BTW 606man... how is that super filter ? How does it compare to the filter + drive we got on the 404... I noticed it has hi pass and band pass added wich is great..but hows it sound ?

The 'Super Filter' is a relatively unknown feature of the 606, as it's attached to the D-Beam (but can be controlled with the wheel if you are adverse to waving your hand about). It is simply amazing; up to 6-pole in power with absolutely none of the 'stepping' often attributed to digital filters - it really does sound 'almost analogue'! It's only 'limitation' (on the 606 anyway) is that you can't move it's position in the signal chain (it's on the master output, so affects everything..).

Sampie: that's codswallop - the 606 is every bit as intuitive as the 404 (nobody actually looks at the display except when using the chopper - there's no need!); and actually is marketed as an instrument rather than a DJ tool - hence the proper instrument connections and not bloody RCA

i hear you 606man but i still like the 404 workflow better than the 606. with the 606 u gotta go thru a couple screens just to reverse a sample if i remember correctly. Its little things like that that make the 404/303/ soon to be555 better imo.
