Post subject: | Melody patterns to play an external Synth? |
Hi there, as I've read here: viewtopic.php?t=3104&highlight=trigger+midi ... it's possibe to connect the 555's midi-out with the midi-in of a synthesizer to play a little synth melody by pressing the pads of the 555. Now my question is: Does the SP-555 also send out the midi-notes when only a pattern is playing? (in a way that one could just record a "silent" pattern which doesn't trigger any real samples but instead sends out the midi-notes of the triggering pads to play my synthesizer)? Or in other words: Can the SP-555 act as a kind of MIDI-Sequencer? (with different "MIDI-melodies" on different patterns to play my synth)? For me, this would be a big argument for buying that thing, although the number of midi-notes that can be send out simultaneously is probably limited to 12 or even 6 or something... so nothing for complex chords. Any ideas? Thanks a lot in advance! Axel |

This will dissapoint you, so no, it is not possible to midi sequence a synth ( I posted the same question basically in the 606 forums). It sucks, an mpc will do it as it has "drum" tracks and "midi" tracks. Think of it this way, the midi data in the rolands sequencer only triggers internal sounds of the sampler. I think im making sense? |

Thanks for the quick reply. Makes total sense. At least technically. Philosophically it's a little sad ;-) but I already guessed that. Will find another way. |

With Sp 555 onboard pads you can play outboard synthesizers and even VSTi's... you just got to have an empty (formated) CF card installed so you don't trigger the existing samples if you want to sample/record what you play. For the sequencing... 555 sequencer is kinda poor, but you get excellent audio and MIDI sequencer with it : Cakewalk Sonar LE and you can use 555 as audio/MIDI interface that you connect to your PC via USB |
