Hi,

Please read this though its lengthy...

Does anyone knows how to change from one pad to another by just tapping the next pad you want to play.

1. While playing on LOOP mode we need to press two pads while changing from one to the other pad; to shut the pad thats playing and press the other pad at the same time to let it start.

2. In GATE mode we must keep the pad pressed to let it play.

3. In Without-Gate/loop mode the loop plays one time and it stops.

In all these feature there is a problem:

In number 1 we need to press two pads at the same time.

In number 2 we must keep pressing to let it play. One finger or hand is engaged.

In number 3 we should change the pad before the loop ends.

In Fantom Series you can press in a pad to let it play its loop then you simply press the next pad that you want to play. The loop keeps playing like in number 1 until you press the next pad you want to play. The SP-555 let you engaged all the time that it's a little inconvenient to play more gear at the same time. SP555 is awesome but I want to play more gears along with it. I have been playing live with SP555 these days and I can see the inconvenience.

Am I ignorant that I don't know how to change the pad or SP555 don't have this feature?

Please help me.

Taj.

You should loop up the part in the manual about the 'hold' button. It's useful to keep loops going... basic function is press hold + the pad that you want to keep looping.

I'm pretty sure with the right settings on the samples, the SP555 also lets you switch to the other pad immediately.

You might want to check out page 16 of the manual if I'm not mistaken.

Hi,

Thanks for your help but I still don't think SP555 is doing any better with the GOLD button:

1. For example I'm playing a loop in pad 1 and want to go to pad 2... unless I press both hold and pad 2 at the same time... the loops of both 1 and 2 keep playing.

2. I cannot turn off the HOLD feature ...when I turn off HOLD the pad I'm playing stops playing.

3. I'm playing pad 1 in HOLD mode... I want to play pad 3 and pad 4 where I have my drum section. Now If I have to end my drum crush on pad 4 where I have my cymbals and bass drum loop I must end my pad 4 while i start pad 5. In HOLD mode the crush will keep playing since I press together with pad 5. I've already said that without HOLD mode I cannot transit to another pad.

Now SP555 is totally fine if we are going to use this gear as the only gear on the stage, apart from a MIDI Pedal, but I feel that it requires too much of our attention on the stage.

Could we just press the next pad we want to play without much of a tweaking our fingers and pressing pads?

this is one of the shortcomings of the 555 and most of the SP series for that matter. Just gotta work around it as best as possible. I usually use option 3.

Hi DJ Frantic,

Why don't you guys push Roland to come out with V1.04. I know you have some access to Roland.

would it be worth it to simply sequence the pad? Then it could play as a loop until you hit the next pad, also set up as it's own sequence?

Yeah... that's the way to go. Set up sequences where the loop is triggered as a sample (in trigger mode, not loop)... then make the sequences as long as you want to loop the sample for. Then you can make an 8 bar seq where it continues to trigger your 2-bar sample throughout... press the pad for the seq you want to follow it at any time during that 8 bars.
