I'm having problems getting started on my sp 555. I tried downloading the sp555 Mac driver from the Roland website and my Mac dosen't seem to be picking up the Sp555. Then I tried downloading all the drives after removing each one and it still isn't working for me. Do I even need the driver to start sampling?

And I read that I need the sp 555 wave converter to sample, but is this the only method I have in order to start sampling?

Hey D-Sue,

I only just purchased a 555 today but have been using a 404 previously.

From what I have seen, Wave Converter is a software used to preload samples (either downloaded, or pre chopped in a DAW) and assign them to pads/banks on your CF card. You would need an external CF card reader that allows your mac to communicate with your CF card. Once done, pop your card back into your SP555 and the samples should be ready to play.

Do you have an audio interface? If so, you can use the [SAMPLING] button to record audio from a turntable/your mac. If you can't find any tutorials on how to do this on the SP555, take a look at how it is done on an SP404 - the method is the same, it's just the record button on the SP555 is [SAMPLING] where as on the SP404 it is [REC].

I hope this has helped you in some way. Have fun!

Hey
Did you ever get your sp555 working with your Mac?
I’m on High Sierra and it seems useless.
I have thought about buying Parallels desktop to run an earlier version of Windows, but seems like a ballache just to use the wave converter.
It’s just easier to sample through line inputs and accept the lower quality.

Roland should give more support for older products.

All the best
