Post subject:  Importing/converting 24 bit samples

Hi, hope you can help. I am new to using external samplers like the sp555 - I have historically always worked using DAW (currently Ableton Live).

I want to do what I thought was a straightforward operation - choose some drum samples from my laptop and upload them to my SP-555. The problem is, all my WAV samples are 24 bit. The only way I can see of getting round this is;

- Create a folder for my sp-555 samples.
- Choose which samples to use (preview in Ableton) and then make a copy of them into the folder.
- Use some sort of batch conversion program to make them 16 bit.
- Import onto flash card SP-555 using Wave Converter.

Does that sound about right or am I making a meal of this? Is there a more direct way of getting my sounds onto the sp-555, perhaps by plugging it in directly to the laptop via usb?

Thanks in advance,

i had the same problem and i'm kind of doing the same to solve it. i look for the right samples in ableton, drag them into audacity and then export as .wav. that makes them 16 bit.
if there's a better way i am listening!
but i guess you always have to convert them.

i use format factory to get them from 24 to 16 bit, works fine.

Or, USB that sucker up, and use loop capture or sampling to get them on a pad from PC/Mac to 555 first, whatever is easier.
