Post subject: | Possible Autostart workaround? |
This is my first post here, so.....hello ![]() I have been eagerly reading the manual since I have a 555 incoming and I was slightly put off by hearing about the slow Autostart. There may be a possible solution but until I get my 555, one of you guys will have to test this to see if it works. It says in the manual that the Autostart level is set a pre-specified amount, but it does not say what this amount is, and after going through the manual it seems there is no way to change it. However, there may be a workaround. In the "Other Settings" section of the manual it says that you can boost the overall output level by +12db, but Roland says that with a lot of samples playing altogether at full level there may be a headroom problem, and you may end up with clipping. However, by raising the overall output level, this will trigger the Autostart sooner (assuming that by raising the output level it does not raise the Autostart trigger level).......and hopefully you will hear the attack transient of your kick drum. |

When you say "autostart" are you referring to auto sampling? If so, that predetermined amount is set by you when you set up the sampling mode. However in my experience using auto sampling pretty much always ends up with a pop sound at the beginning of the waveform. This is due to the waveform not being sampled at the zero crossing, which isn't really Roland's fault because it's the waveform itself which triggers the sampling to start and there is no sound at the zero crossing. Sampling on the SPs is an acquired skill, but good results are completely possible. The techniques vary by what you are sampling. I find setting the BPM first, works well for me. Though I don't always get it on the first try... hope that helps (and what was you were talking about in the first place) gos |

I shoud have clarified. I meant Autostart in Loop Capture. You can't adjust the Autostart level in LC, hence my workaround. People complain that when sampling whole sequences into LC, it misses a small portion of sound at the beginning of the loop (like the attack of a kick for example). By raising the overall output level of the SP, this will force Autostart to trigger earlier (in theory). Hopefully then the attack of the kick is not missed when recording a whole sequences. |

Ok, thought you might have meant that. I don't have a lot of experience with that feature. I did see that there was a firmware update on the Roland site that dealt with loop capture but can't confirm it deals with your issue. Maybe someone with more experience can help you out. Good Luck-gos |

ok...so I tried this and it didnt work at all. I tried it at all the settings and surprisingly it worked best at -3db...heh.. go figure. In all the setting it still cut out a few seconds of the sample though. Owell... |

It doesn't care about volume, only the amount of data counts and has a certain threshold... |

Strange indeed. If there is still a delay, then it must be an internal issue. Slow processing maybe, which causes the gap between the threshold being crossed and firing the sampling engine. I never got my 555, dude on ebay says he dropped it and gave a refund. Probably agood thing anyway, because I was looking at this thing in terms of resampling whole loops, and the lag thing is not good enough. Good box for other stuff though. |
