A MIDI signal is a set of commands traveling down a wire. So you want to plug the MIDI out of the controller Keyboard into the MIDI in of the 555 to send commands to the 555.

Not exactly sure why it wouldn't turn on. But I'd guess that you'd have to give it power in the DC input from a power adapter and not from the USB because thsi is in itself a MIDI out (as well as provideing power).

2 things to keep in mind.

1. the SP555 defaults to midi channel 1 and 2...the banks are split betweent them so check your midi channel on oxygen.

2. The pads start LOW in the scale, I think on my midi keyboard I shift about 3 octaves down to reach bank 1 pad 1, so you may be in a range w/o samples.

Not possible AFAIK, at least not with MIDI CCs or PCs, might be possible through Sysex.

thanks sharpmotif :D
as long as i could
trigger them things
that should be good.
only worried for my 555
coz from excessive travelling
i get shaky knobs.
for ctrl1 or prolly im using the knob too much.
the oxygen 8 knobs seems interesting tho.
beats me..lol

You could try this "Boss Knob Mod" Dj_just_jeff did on his 404 (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6725&start=0 - shame the pics aren't loading, dead links). While it doesn't solve the problem, it could help.

Another thing is that the SP-606 supposedly does that (at least that's what the Midi Implementation Chart indicates). Could work for some automated "Effect Memory-like" for synth riffs/arpeggios/etc, I haven't seen people talking about this - so it might not be as easy as what's pointed in the manual.

For the 555, if there are actual Sysex messages to be sent and received, we could find ways to automate sampling, loop capture and FX controls - V-Link mode sends CCs, PCs, Note On/Off messages and that's all I know so far (maybe it does receive those same messages too, which could be a start - haven't tested that).

I don't know if it's the same user and it doesn't show much about taking knobs out or whatever but here's a video with a modded 404: http://www.youtube.com/v/f8JCpId33wU
