I don't really understand this...

I wanna buy the sp606 next month (money issues), but it's out of stock already (only ONE left at Roland here in Belgium), so the follow-up (sp 555) will be the only option for me to buy in the future (to have sampling ability together with the USB connectivity and midi in/out and multitimbrality)...

But it has less banks (not a real big issue, but still), and has no real sequencer. You can make patterns, but you can't put them together in a certain order...

Am I right (if yes: WTF!?), or am I wrong (I hope so)

you are right. It works the same way as the 404 but with a couple more features. And there are work arounds. For example, using he loop capture you can record a loop of your pattern so it will be a sample. Then, you can use the sequencer with quarter note quantize to drop your patterns back into the songmode...making it a makeshift song mode. You can always buy the 606 used also... Roland stuff is well built buying a second hand one shouldnt be an issue.

Damn... it just kinda sucks that the 606 is really everything (and all) I need. And just now, that I've stumbled upon this piece of material, it's going out of stock!

It sucks they dropped the whole sequencer-thing on the ps serie... I'm not into DJ-ing so major bummer for me!

yeah there are differences of opinion but i think it sucks they targeted the 555 more at djs than producers. hence my complete lack of interest.

Really, I was stunned by this. Looking at the online manual, not finding the 'sequencing' chapter... not the slightest bit amazed by the loop-recording feature...

there is a sequencer... its the same sequencer as the 404 except it adds some new quantize options. I dunno...im perfectly content with it. iG9... the 404 is also geared toward DJs...Roland is just stupid :)

Simon - I would not settle for a 555 if you were really after a 606. It is worth waiting a bit longer to source a 2nd-hand model on eBay, or to wait for Roland to order a new one in.

It'll be worth it in the long run, to get what you actually want rather than settling for something else

LMFAO!! Are you high or what? :D

Knowing that Roland never listens to user opinion I guess they will but a booze cup holder for DJs on the right side of the SP707 :)
