I think this forum is to big...
To many categories compared to the number of users.
I think it would be a good idea if you guys considered merging some of the categories...
like all the SP tips and tricks forums , most of those can go in the same category, and it will make the forum more active, because more people will see the posted threads. plus as I see it (just from reviewing the different machines specs) the machines aren't all that different...
for example you could make sp303,404 and 555 one category and sp 505, 606 and 808 another category... keep in mind it's only an example...
I hope you guys know what I mean...

i respectfully disagree entirely

I think it's important to separate the SPs, especially as some questions are specific to a model and would need further clarification if in a merged section

plus most people here only have their own one model. that means they can just check their relevant part of the forum

i think it'd be more confusing to merge them. i don't think there's any need to, just because some Tips and Tricks section are less active doesn't mean they're not just as important.

that's just my 2 cents though :)

peace

i see your point, but the tips and tricks was just an example...
But alot of tips and tricks for the 303, will work for the 404 and so on...
I agree when the forum gets bigger (users) it will be a good idea to seperate things... But right now it seems like a hassle to go through more sections than there are actual new posts... on top of that, most people write what machine their post is intended for in the subject line...

We decided to keep the number of categories as low as possible while still maintaining some kind of structure.

There are a couple of Tips 'n' Tricks categories with almost no activity so yeah those could be merged to one category. However, we've decided to keep things consistent. In our opinion merging those 4 categories to one (which means 3 categories less in total) doesn't way up to the inconsistency you create.

Also, by combining these categories or combining them with active categories it will be much harder to find what you're looking for if you use a not so popular SP.

We also believe the power of SP-Forums lies within the 'freeness'. There are not a lot of rules which makes this site 'easy to use'. Forcing people to put the SP-model inside the topic would be helpful for organizational purposes but would limit this 'freeness'.

So therefor we 'force' this organization by using distinct categories.

I understand your point of view and appreciate the suggestion but for know we'll stick with this structure. However, feel free to post a poll and ask the members of this forum what they want. Ultimately it's their choice.

PS
If you want an overview of the latest topics try this:
search.php?search_id=newposts

keesj, thank you for making a place for a positive music community to exist.

i have a suggestion;
whenever i do a search, i'll get a long list of topics to read but if i select the wrong one and then try to press the back arrow i get a problem in which i have to do the search all over again. if this is just me because of location then nevermind but if this everybody i was thinking if this was fixed, we might avoid answering the same questions over and over again. just an idea.

yeah, that seems to happen in every forum search when your searching the first page of threads. you gotta hit the refresh button.

it doesn't happen at fp.com for instance and that makes the search easier imho.

right click the thread link and choose open in new window, or open in new tab... that way you can just close it when your done reading it.
