Whatsup im new to this forum and i apologize if i put this in the wrong section but im intrested in buying a 404 but i have one question can i sample bass notes and play basslines like i would with a keyboard or 16 levels on a mpc? thanks

You can tune the subsonic effect if your patient. Best bet is to buy a synth to go with your 404

using subsonic is quick with practise .. manual process though ..like stated above you could just sample each note from keyboard

This is what I do, just come up with a riff then record each note in that riff then sequence it. Works a charm :D

There is 16 levels on the 606 and velocity. As well as external resample for laying basslines over tracks.
But the 404 doesn't have that.

bass tones is the one thing that the 404 pitch doesn't really degrade too much,at least not anything near what it does to normal samples. Completely usable for basslines imo..if anything it adds somewhat of a Lo fi effect. Probably best for your original sample to be in the lower part of the scale..404 seems to pitch basses a little better going up than down. But yea try it out-- pitch each note and resample,not really that time consuming at all.
