well it depends if you use the default software interpreter for each device...

you can make them all do similar things with the grid part if you want to

well the APC and launchpad have "default" control settings, in ableton/etc..

But people have made programs that intercept the raw input and make it into the same format as the monome so you can use monome programs..

ok
what makes me think that the apc40 is "more complete" is the fact it has faders and tweakers too, so in a live situation it could be more comfortable than monome or launchpad...

...i see also some hack versions of the very cheap bliptron (by think geek), in order to emulate monome
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7pfgalBuBE
also a KP3 could "become a monome"...i was wondering if and how a sequencer (for example an mpc1000 or a roland groovebox) could do the same thing (emulate monome)...

i dont know much about the monome, but the main difference between the launchpad and apc 40 is that the launchpad does not have faders, etc. the launchpad, can control volume, pans, etc. but the interface is just a bit difference. the launchpad is more portable and doesnt require a wall plug whereas the apc does. It all really depends on what you are looking for. As for myself, i chose a launchpad and am loving it- they are cheaper, too...only about 100-150 too!

thanx lodger i forget you own one launchpad.
how do you feel it? the lack of faders is a big issue? for ex. if you want to control tracks volume how do yuo make this on launchpad, just with 2 buttons?

Buy the parts to build a monome. Try it out and if you don't like it sell it and make a profit on the machine. Instant win and you can be one of those cool m4l (max4live) hipster kids who knod their heads while making beats completely out of rhythm. :P

ot
in those days i'm try the wiimote as a controller, is cool for making non static live...very cheap (20€) and it works...the glovepie scripts arent that "headache"...

i received a present for my birthday, that present is to spend a bonus (120€) on a muiscal instrument shop here.
except monome, they got the Launchpad, APC40 and APC20.
i asked the man what's the main differences between the launch and the akais and he told me that were the faders...
i don't understand why Novavation could do something not practical like this, maybe you can use those buttons diffently?

i finally took an apc20, it was the chepest in this shop. this is just a present as i said before.
i have ableton live 6.
for some reasons the apc20 needs to be mapped.
-do you know if it works "directly" (not to map everytime) with Live 6 or not? what version of Live i need?
-how the scenes thing works?!?
-i'm just able to use the first 5 rows...no shift button and no midi note button possible to use...

some helps please?

You need live 8 for the aoc20. With live 8 you can also use max4live.
