It looks like a crossing between SP-606+ASR-X+Korg ES1+Akai xr20...
presented in 2009...
but it's ok or not? a fake or a toy? a drummachine+sampler? it has usb(in+out),midi in+out,2 cards slot...and also screen editing waves...
who knows...

i think there was some discussion on this a while back...

me, i will reserve my judgement till ive tried it myself... I am guessing the quality wont be very good though hopefully I will be surprised.

The name is so ridiculous I'm inclined to believe its all a huge joke.

Just remember that for about 200 bucks more you've got yourself a used MV... still a machine that can do lots more than the Beat Thang.

It's more a competitor for the MPC500 and MPC1000.

The last few movies looked really good to me though, this Beat Thang might be a lot cooler than it's name makes believe. :P

the name and the way those guys market it only makes me puke. they're like: "yeah buy this ish man, this thing gonna pop out beats in no time, super easy super cool 50 cent beats niiice!!! da real deal."

c'mon I better trust linndrum 2 than this THANG, because I know that linndrum is designed by a person who is responsible for one of the best drum machines in the world.

it seems they are targeting at wannabee beat makers that don't understand a thing on how to make music so they try to appeal to them with super easy learning curve, blue lights, custom grills etc etc.

even if the machines comes out nice, I most probably won't touch it with a ten foot pole because of it visuals and the name.... the fuckin' name... as cartesia already said I really hope this is a joke and they come up with a better name than it is.

unfortunately as they say in their stupid video "it's alive! it's alive!", it exists and they also have a site.

but now, out of easy (and justified) comments, i would like to see at it critically.
it has 16giga ram. 16 songs. 1 usb in/out. 3.5 screen. 13 (sensitive?)pads. different fx. midi in/out. 2 card slots. pitch control. some controller on each side (i don't even know what theay are to)...
...not bad for a beginning.
the design is horrible, i agree. it's a bad mixture of sp-606, asr-x, korg electribe (all) and akai xr20.... but, for example, roland D2 has horrible deisgn too but is very useful.

Yeah, the marketing is a bad sad. At first I had to laugh, thinking they were joking, but it's like that superbad 'the rapper' promo video of the Motu BPM (or was it the Maschine?).

No offense to the people who designed the machine, but dang I don't think anyone can relate to that.

It's all cool though, I'm confident the promo vids make us underestimate the Beat Thang a lot. But technically, it's not superior to its competitors.

i don't know....but for you who is the competitor of that "thang"?...
i risk to became an eretic, but this "thang" got a pitch control with maybe the sp-606 could be scared... :)

its amazing if you make new school rap

but unless you can resample its pretty much useless for every other genre of electronic music

control of oscillators? custom multisamples? automation? then we'd be talking.

i really doubt that there is some kind of advanced features that would put it above other budget instruments. and actually it isn't budget I guess for the price it'll cost ya you can easily grab a good mpc 1000 with jjos and do bunch of many things that this thang can't.

they haven't released even the technical data anyway and from what I understand it's going out somewhere in may (?) no more than two months to go and the guys haven't even released a data sheet of the whole thang!! I am concerned that they do it like this not because they don't want their competitors to steal the ideas (would be ridiculous as they already released most of the technical data only the software is what is still unknown) but because the machine probably could lack something important that could stop people from buying it.

from what I understand from the video the guy who produces the beat used the track buttons to switch banks and as they said that there is no confusing stuff like programs (which basically is a name for a sample bank in mpc) and that there is no loading times for the samples (streaming from the card) this could mean the the machine is limited to only 16 sample banks ? if that's true then I see already the first limit of the machine. but i believe that there should be more if they have included their own thang sounds :)

It seems unlikely that there are only 16 banks, I mean they have two card slots, right?

But you are right, it very much remains to be seen if it's any better or on par with an MPC1000. If they want to stand a chance, it better be... but I'm not confident it's actually truly better.

being honest, i can't wait to see how this turns out. everybody wants to hate on the grillz but we're quick to up the styleflips right? what sense does that make? I always thought it was odd that all our beat machines are made by Japanese companies when as much as I love dem Japanese they aren't exactly known for their hip hop. this looks like a labor of love from people who are more part of our (speaking to the heads now) culture than we've ever seen release a product. so what if they act a fool? if i had a box i thought was ill and was going up against the big boys i'd be hype too. yeah the name turned me off at first but what if they'd called it the BT1000 like a regular company, would it really make a difference? they're trying to stand out from the pack and i think they're doing a good job at it. killer feature set afaik. the rechargable battery alone is mad ill, the 2 phone outs beats the shit out of carrying around a splitter (that then sticks out and isn't as secure a conneciton), pitch and mod wheels... granted i don't like the kind of beats they seem to dig but to each his own right? now i'm not gonna cop one till i read the reviews, all kinds of things could go wrong with your first fabrication (and if they're smart they'll allay fears about build quality with an ironclad warranty) but i'm not gonna hate just cause they have an attitude. as much attitude as i've given fools over the years that'd be mad hypocritical...

anywho can't wait till launch day and they better have a pot leaf grill for me! =)
