I like the M-audio trigger finger, Roger Linn who designed the Mpc for akai works for M-audio and I'm sure they got plenty of input from him. I've never had a problem with it and M-audio is know for making some of the best midi controllers on the market whether it's keys or pads.

It's tough 'cause the pad kontrol has the xy pad w/roll and flam, but it doesn't offer pressure and velocity sensitive pads just velocity. If I could change one thing on my 303 it would be having pressure and velocity sensitive pads.

this feature is pretty amazing. once you get used to the controls you can get some really nice drum rolls happening, really livens up the feel of the drums. Plus the pK has an input for a pedal which I use as the kickdrum. you can sit at it and literally play the drums :)

also if you're a computer user its worth noting the pad kontrol is well on its way to being hacked which should let you do some cool things

that sounds very promising.

you got any more info/links?

not alot of info yet...

here's a little teaser video from the guys doing it, only really showing off the control over the lights/display. . but the way they talk about it makes it seem like you could program it to do anything really - kind of like a monome except 4x4 + knobs/buttons instead of the monome's 8x8 grid.

wicked! thanks for the link

i'm so glad there's these ingenious types out there who potentiate these machines beyond what the manufacturers planned.

damn this vid was put up in Feb....hopefully they've moved beyond light display and into other functions

EDIT: from their blog:

"It’s been ages since I’ve allowed myself the time to tinker with this. I will talk some more to my dear colleague and find a realistic specification for the project, and a realistic time frame to get this thing out there."

i'm thinkin the samething too... cause all i need is the velocity pads, so i'm thinkin also that the mpd16 will do, but i never messed witn an mpd16... but also read reviews that they had problems... anybody? anybody?
