anyone have one?

im thinking of getting one.. i was really going to get the microkorg but i cant play the piano at all and dont wanna use it just for long wav notes.. the alesis has a sequencer which is why im interested... the guy in the keyboard department at the sam ash near me is an amazing piano player and he is the one who turned me onto the micron.. he said (without me prompting) that for the money the micron has more bang for the buck and he almost got one..

i just went and looked at the micron and it seems cool.. it would def take some time to read through the manual seeing as i couldnt even find the section with the sequencer.. but im sure it would prolly keep me entertained.. again i like the micron for the sequencer and i like the style it has(its kind of like my electribe).. i looked at the mc 808 while i was there and it seems like it might be cool for what im looking for also.. creating simple sample loops of instrument melody and filler stuff without having to play it live like on the microkorg.. i want to program my shit.. you can play the 808 like a keyboard and thats cool.. anyone have or use an 808?

For the money I believe it's a better more full featured synth than the microkorg.

im kinda surprised to hear you say that.. i picked your brain a little about the microkorg and you seemed to be into it... you could have gotten the alesis for less than the korg prolly..

(the sad thing is if i found a used micro in the reverse scheme (black on white rather than white on black) i would prolly buy that and the alesis)

It's up to you, I like my microkorg but the alesis has the sequencer and everyone and their mother doesn't have one. I bought a microkorg because I like the music people have made with it and it has a retro moog kinda vibe to the design.

I've got both and I like em both. microKorg is slightly easier to tweak and it runs on batterys for portable groovemaking and practicing.

The micron has full size keys and is more tweakable, at the moment I am playing the microKorg more though, but now I want to go home and play with the micron

yea the only thing holding me back is the controls are all internal kinda.. the korg they are all right ontop on the alesis its all menues.. i pretty sure im picking up the alesis mainly for the sequencer..

I had the Micron and didn't like it really...had the microkorg for a bit and liked it more, better sounds, better presets <--but I'm kind of a find a preset and tweak it to my liking person...but I mostly hated the micron's tiny screen and it seemed as though most sounds it had had reverb on them or came out sounding super digital which you may or may not like...and of course you can change that if you take the time

If you can get it cheap, I'd go for it for sure. I've always wanted an MC-808, but ended up with an MC-505. Basically groove boxes are underestimated, especially in combination with a good sampler. Believe it or not, even the worst sounding patches of my MC-505 are useful when you resample the ish out of it using nice FX and such.

Some cons:

-The motorized faders are noisy.

-It seems to use a not so great software program along side, meaning doing simple things can be tedious at times. It's not necessarily a bad program though. Mind you though, I've got most of this from hear say, my own experience with the MC-808 (about 15 minutes total) were good actually, but it seems to mainly come down to the more complicated stuff you can do with it... not the most user friendly software package.

- Compact Flash cards, the usual issue... the sizes it can handle seem to go extinct rapidly.

Some pros:

-It's an excellent groove box as is and all the sampler stuff is extra in my opinion anyways.

-It's smaller than the MC-909.

-The motorized faders

-The sampler part is gooood to have inside the groovebox, it's what made the mc-909 awesome. According to Roland the mc-808 has 'all' the features the mc-909 had... but to be honest I don't think that's entirely true, lol. It's got 99% of it though!

I'd suggest checking out YouTube to satisfy your gearlust , there are some very creative people who got the most out of the 808 making all kinds of remixes and covers, pretty cool stuff!!

If my MC-505 breaks someday, I'll definitely try to get the mc-808 (the mc-909 looks awesome too).

man, I was doing the usual unemployed person act of checking craigslist and found this day old post for a Korg Microkorg for $150..so I was like, fuck that's probably already sold, but let me send dude a message. In the message I offer him $170 incase someone else offered 150. A few days later he's like I still have it, I'm like cool, I'll take it....then he's like well, it doesn't have the AC adapter, but it has a carrying case. So I say, "well, how much did you want for it since the AC adapter is missing (acting like it's a big deal)" and he's like "uhhh, $120?" so I proceed to jump in the jeep and haul ass 90 miles up to KC to scoop this korg...

it's some emo dude, who was probably in high school and needed money to buy weed. He gives it to me and says, "Oh, I found the AC adapter and I threw in a 1/4 to 1/8" headphone adapter"

I was like cool, still gave him the 120 and I am now home, having put the korg through the tests, it's good to go, and I'm s-s-s-stoked! I can't help but think this post conjured up some mojo for me so thanks for that

Now if I only could find an MC-808 for 200, I'd be set for another long time when it comes to gearlust hahaha.

i ended up getting a new micron... these doods in SA wanna sell used stuff for just under what new stuff costs sometimes... dood was gonna throw in a gig bag i would have never used.. i had this guy talked down a little bit and he kept dodging me.. i already wasted two weeks worth or days off waiting around for people to sell me the stuff im trying to buy so i said fuggit and bought a new one.. i get home from guitar center and not 10 minutes after i walk in the door the dood texts me asking if we can meet up..

it has a bunch of different ways to sequence and set up loops and stuff.. i think im gonna like it a lot..
