Anyone used one, alongside an sp? I know theres a few posts about it already but was wondering if anyones used one and what the low down is, like pros and cons...
Im thinking about getting one but some times they sound dope but most videos are all crazy arps stuff which is abit to trancy....
I was thinking of using it for chilled basslines etc
any thoughts?

I don't have one, nor actual experience playing one, but to me it seems quite difficult to control. I did have a KaossPad 3, but didn't like it enough to want to keep it. Again, controlling the synth and playing melodies just was a bit too difficult, it was very sensitive to where you press. My guess is, the Kaossilator may suffer from the same thing.

As said though, I never ever touched one.

I've played with one, and they are a blast. You get used to the controls and you can play it pretty good with practice. Most of the sounds are pretty house / trancey though, which is why I didn't cop one yet. The MFX would mangle them nicely though I'm sure. Stupid that it has no memory though, the second you power down you lose all your shit...

They seem pretty cheap and fun to use, but maybe id be better getting a cheap synth....cant play piano for shit tho, and decent synths are pricey....woe is me :(
My minds still open with the kaossolitor, any one else use one?
thanks for replying guys. :)

I just bought one from guitar center. They're pretty cool but theres just not enough sounds in it imo. Theres a few sounds that sound amazing in the chord section of it. It takes a while to get a hang of the controls. But for $200 its a pretty sweet synthesizer. I think it goes really well with a sp 404. They both run on batteries! You have a complete portable studio with those 2 :D . I made a a beat with just the kaossilator and the 404 the other day. it turned out ok.

Shit sound great creep! Loving that beat, its got my head diping...
This is definatly going in the PROs list for getting one :D
Im figuring the lack or sounds could be remdied with the MFX on the sp, Like IG9 said.....
you tried that man?

the koassilator's a lot of fun. i don't really use it quite as much as i thot i would, because it is so random. lot of trial and error to get the sound or notes you want....so tough to use live.

also, i don't think the issue is that there are so few sounds, its more that once you KNOW those sounds, you can hear them in other people's stuff.

w/ the 404 its fun. good little tool. but i mostly prefer just sitting around and making ambient things. great for travel or commutes or whatever.

also, there's that weird trick where you can change the 4-bar loop function into 8-bars. not much dif, but enough to make it more interesting.

here's a simple mod to help make your Kaossilations more precise, note-wise:

great idea, in my opinion

Yeah, very useful and for me necessary as well. Even with the grid that's on the Kaoss Pad 3, I felt it was way too random. Apparently the Kaossilator has more than 45 different squares for notes though, so you might want to make it even more uhm detailed so you got em all. :)

I just got a Kaoss Pad KP3 recently and I have to say, it's helped take my dj gigs and production to another level. I haven't release anything yet. I'm still playing with it. The reason I went with the KP3 is that it: a. can do what the Kaossilator can do(minus battery power), and b. can do the same as a miniKP, again, not battery powered. PLUS it has sampling, looping, and a BAD ASS LED backlit display. It's WAY fun, and can help a great set become a face melting set.

Love,

Georges Brazil
