Hi all, I'm new to the concept of sampling at the moment I've been cutting stuff up into battery 3 and using a MPD32 is the closest I've got but wanna try a some hardware stuff. Got an electribe EMX-1 and would love a MC-808 but would like to know if it has the same kinda vinyl sim of the SP-404 because I'd really love to get that real time performance feel but the MC-808 looks more adapt at what I want to use it for. Any advice and comments would be most appreciated.

THanks and much love,
Kyle

just afew other little nit picky Q's as an after thought

Can you cut and transfer your files onto the CF card using a computer instead of doing line in records?

Can you set a bank or group of pads into a monophonic group to save voices and prevent voice stealing?

Is it possible to put in incredibly short samples and have them fast loop (ie waves forms for a little basic ass synthesis)

Really was looking into a MC-808 but I really dig the live performance aspect these samplers offer

i'd like to add one question if you don't mind;

can you have multiple bar lenghts (part specific) on one pattern?

there is two mc 808s for sale in my city on craigs list and no other roland samplers... they seem pretty complex..

i donno about the 808 i looked at that when i got my esx.. the esx was easier for ME to handle..

i had an mc 808 but to be honest i didnt like it much, the only thing i like was the preset basses and the motorized faders.

you need a lab coat glasses and a name tag to use the fucker.

i'll try to answer the questions i guess.

Can you cut and transfer your files onto the CF card using a computer instead of doing line in records? yes . however saving is a nother story . see labcoat glasses and name tag part.

Can you set a bank or group of pads into a monophonic group to save voices and prevent voice stealing? it has 64 or 128 voice polyphony if i remember correctly, not shure what voice stealing is .

Is it possible to put in incredibly short samples and have them fast loop (ie waves forms for a little basic ass synthesis)
yes you can load loop point samples and make your own synth sound. saving patches and songs is a nother story . not shure how incredibly short it will allow though .

i would say wait till they go down to 299, really thats all they are worth.

shit i payed 900

hey JBL . if you ever used a mc 505 its pretty much the same thing with a sampler. if you are in pattern mode, each pattern can have a diferent lenght. I think thats what you asked ?

that's cool. actually i meant could part 1 be two bars, part 2 be four bars, part3 be eight bars, etc...

kinda like on live or an mpc where you just double one part.

but i've never owned an mc; is each part a pattern or does a pattern have 16 parts? :? :?:

You know what, im not shure. that would be pretty cool if each part or track had a diferent length, we better wait for someone who knows more to answer.

Yes, drag n drop affair. Then use the "Import" function on 404, easy as can be.

No. Not in any way.

Yep, although it's only a 12 voice box and the pitch altering FX are less than satisfactory for the most part.

I've owned a 404 at one point in time. It's a great and immediate tool. Fast processing, decent and creative FX, and it can hold an assload of samples with a 1gb CF card.

I love you hematurge, thank you very much :D Does the 555 offer better pitch altering facilities?

Bending the F outta the original sample probably wouldn't be the best idea I was thinking more of multisampling for an octave so I can have a lil 303 action and just use the onboard LPF ;)

I think it's pretty much the same on the 555. From what I gather the 505 is the only with decent pitching.
