hey fam

don't know if this has been done before. thought it would be nice to post videos or photos of strange gear you've come across online or in RL (reality living). a thread to express gear pipe dreams, gushy equipment love or general questions.

here's a video of this dude GIANT CLAW (really cool bandcamp/tape releases)

is that a Korg Monopoly? man, I wish I had one of those. Can only afford to use Legowelt's samples. Btw, I hope you know about those. I just saw those new Yamaha dx200 drum samples he added. Didn't know about that machine. These are sick! The dx200: http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/dx200.php

Was able to play with one of these a while ago and have had to stay quiet about it (which has been really f*cking hard)... SKnote's "RawPro" compressors. Brand new series of hardware comps and... my dudes... this is the real deal.

http://www.sknote.it/RawPro.htm

I have only been able to use the "165a" model on a drum bus and on a tenor sax and it was absolutely glorious. Pairs nice with my FMR RNC (which is beyond transparent for better/worse) since it has a buttery, round sort of texture.

Up next... MS20 Mini. Anyone have one? Been wondering about the INPUT path. How sensitive is the input? I've passed guitar through a few others only to have delicate finger technique come out boxy. Not expecting anything less here but would be sweet if you could actually PLAY the oscillators.

the new electribe sampler got my attention, but the more i look into it-- the more it seems half assed.

An SP + KP would be a lot of fun, seems like that duo is rocked pretty often.

yeah, I 've been considering it too but it seems that the volca sample might be a good combination for an sp too. Or the new Casio grooveboxes! I wish they didn't look like toys though.

BTW, what do you guys think about the new Yamaha Reface serie? I mean, 800$?!! For that price you could get an original DX and some other old Yamaha for the same price. I recently discovered the Korg Micro X though and these seem dope. Didn't even know they existed!! This and the Yamaha DX 200!! http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/dx200.php

SebP. I got a DX200. Everybody thinks the patterns/drums are rather weak. You're also stuck with 1 measure. So it's like making looping tunes in a gerbil wheel. But, to get around the restriction, you can slave it to a electribe, or other groovebox(505/909), and then you can make more interesting tunes that way.

The synth engine is why it shines. You can go from Tubular Bell like sounds, to Nine Inch Nails extreme sounds, to deep house bass/dub, etc. You just mess with the operators, fx, and waveforms, and it's fun to change the sounds into what it can do well.

As I mentioned, the drum loops are pretty basic, but, if you can include them with another drum machine, you may find they blend well together. My Er-1 mk2 and Dx200 make a wicked combo for instance.

You may want to act fast if you see one, because they are a great secret weapon in any studio. So most people keep ahold of them, so they are a bit rare.

As for the new Yamaha Reface synths, I want them all except for the red organ one. But, I won't lie. I could do without the internal speakers, they do need to be cheaper, and I feel mini keys won't do them justice. But oh well. At least it should be interesting to see if Yamaha wants to reclaim a market they kind of forgot about. And yes, the DX Reface sounds a lot different from the DX200, so I've got to get one!! (They would be great together)

that's right, it's too expensive, the dx7 is about 200euros second hand...

i got an AN200 (derived from the an1x yamaha synth). this machine is a secret dirty analog emulator. the 1 pattern mesure is a shit, i try to workaround with combining low bpm and notes writing in order to obtain some sort of 2 measures at least. that's not the same thing, but it's a workaround. i like a lot the way you can trigger midi notes (reverse notes, live swing, live beat, roll, trasposition, fwd-bwd, etc) on the fly and i use it in combination with the mighty st224. plus, you can midi out 4 different channels...oh, it also has some -very few- FM cpabilities with its fm depth controller...

Post subject:  Re: Random gear dreams/adoration/speculation thread

They are a brother/sister team for sure. But the Dx200 has 16 note polyphony, while the AN200 only has 5. But they are fun machines, even though people find a lot to complain about in them. They still have the sounds no other groovebox/electribe can do(I'm talking about their synth engines), but for some reason AN200s are easier to spot on eBay. Sometimes all you can find on eBay is a manual. It would cost a lot, but I'd love to own 2 of each of them. 1 would be pretty much the factory stock sounds/patterns, the other would be for tossing in my own sounds/patterns. But there is too much else on my wish list for me to bother with.
