Post subject:  cubase or sp606

i don't want this to turn into a comparison but i need some advice from level headed people. i've been makin beats for about 2 yrs n i'm lookin to update my equipment since purchasin a new laptop several months back. i was using acid pro for most of the time with a small stint in fl studio. i've used a yamaha motif n roland's mv in my beat bros studio. my question to all of u is that while using all of these pieces i've noticed my talents r mostly in choppin n editing of samples more then organic creation. so with that said my mind is tellin me to lean towards an sp606 for da visual editing which i'm use too, along with the great sample tweakin, n fx engine. or go with cubase n use dat as my go to piece with loads of plug-in fx and instruments. da thing i notice about daw's like cubase is that u occasionally get caught up in form vs vibe n dats why i'm kin to samplin quick n editing ala (acid pro). if any could give me some feedback n let me know if i'm thinkin on da right path for what i wanna do please let me know. thanks guys n also big up's to everybody in battle 15. left dat out a my last post.

also just to elaborate i think another downfall to some of these pro daw's is there lack of speedy audio editing. dats da main reason they mess with my productivity. also i have pretty good rhythm so workin da pads like i did on da mv is not a concern. again guys thanks for da feedback.

get the SP man
sounds like you enjoy rocking hardware

also, the 606 has a PC app to go with it, best of both worlds : )

thanks for the advice drewzle. i was under the impression that the p606 software didn't work with vista (i'm runnin home premium 32bit) please correct me if i'm wrong. but its all good cause i've used audacity a few times i'm sure i can get da hang of it.

sorry man, i rock the 404 so i'm not certain about P606's system requirements

maybe have a read through the 606 forum for ideas

banging pads is always more fun than clicking the mouse

Get both. The 606s computer integration is great. You could pretty much use cubase with the 606 as 1 machine.

Vista sucks so bad, you'd be better to run XP or even 2000. Your machine will run much quicker and be a little more stable.

can't speak bout the 606 (use a 404, myself), but i made the switch from software-based creation to hardware-based creation awhile ago, and feel much better about it. the hands-on elements make me come up w/ things i never came up w/ in software, and fings just feel more real to me.

i still use software for multitracking tho. it has its place in my set up. and obvs, i often use software for sending stuff over to the 404 (but hack n cut on the box)

hope some of that helps.

That's cool. If I we're you I would just buy the 606 since you can create pretty freely like Acid Pro and you get buttons and control knobs. I would also remove the new GUI features in Windows Vista to make it run quicker and then I would install and use this program to make music on the computer.

Enjoy. :)

good lookin on da link fam dat looks like a pretty high end sample editor. is dat a stand alone app i can use or does it need a host? n lol i feel u on disablin all dat stuff 10 steps ahead a ya doc. my vista loadtime went from over 2 minutes to about 65 secs with only 1gig of ram.

Buy more ram too, DDR is like $50 for 2 gigs of ram. Plus ram is so easy to install. That progam is a standalone and I believe it can host vsti.

I learn new programs all the time and make a few beats each time, but I've been doing more photoshop and illustrator editing on the comp then audio. I just like to use a turntable and the 303 the most since it's so simple and easy.
I turned on my pc and made a beat in fl the other day that's kinda cool, I like to do a lot of change ups and complicated drum patterns when I use programs since it's so much quicker than the 303 and more feature/fx rich.
