i wanted to invest my last peace of cash into decent turntable that will last long & would be very good for minor scratching. i know i should take Technics, but it looks like they are more priced because of the famous name not because the internals cost that much. Can you post any other good turntable models?

I want a classical one Technics SL-1210 MK2 -- what can you say bad about it ?

Technics turntables also last for a very long time and have a great resell value. There are some minor drawbacks like the built in rca though. I'm happy with my 1200's which i bought like 7 years ago second hand.
I'm sure you can get a cheaper decent turntable - i would look for stanton and numark maybe. I remember stanton had some "1200 replacement" model that many tablist also used but maybe it's not made anymore. - couldn't see that on their page and can't remember the model number. But then again i'm getting nice with the beers and stuff.

i have a related question ive been trying to solve about mounting the needle. before i used my partners decks with the needle mounted straight on and anytime i would need to rewind the record or scratch a part it stayed in the groove fine. then i bought my own set and when setting the needle up the directions said to mount it at a 29 degree angle facing outward, which like half made sense to me, but anyway, it doesnt work real perfect for keeping the record in the same groove == anybody got solutions or tips

im not like super into scratching, but id like to be able to rewind and keep repeating the same part of the record

^ is there a counterweight at the end of the arm? try turning it to the heaviest/biggest setting

otherwise, maybe try a different angle?

I can say alot of bad things about a 1200 1200s(1210s) have a dope feel and are built like tanks...but have close to zero features. The tone arm doesnt hold like other high end tables and the chords are hard wired in... so if something happens to them u have to re-solder new ones in...and RCAs arent the strongest things ever. I would go with Numark or Vestax turntables. They offer lots of things to people who want to do creative things. I own TTXs and they have alot of great features. Adjustables start/stop motor, reverse, pitch adjustment up to 50% with timestretch option. aswell as a few other things. And most important. They are solid and have a great motor. I have had mine for 6 years and they are still going strong. I even toured with them so they took abuse !

Yeah but anything good as Technics but without all that new features crap? I don't need them. Just a straight up direct drive table with 2 speeds and a pitch slider. Nothing else. But I want it to last very long. My old unknown decks are built like shit - no, they are good for sampling but they have plastic platters - cmon' i need something that will work for me long.

the plugs thing shouldnt worry you, unless you are constantly plugging it in, unplugging it, etc...

Ok, after reading through a lot of good reviews and recommendations I have ordered Technics SL-1200 MK5 turn table. By Monday it should be in my studio.

IF YOUR'E NOT GOING TO SCRATCH GET YOURSELF A GOOD HI-FI NEEDLE.

I USE A SHURE M97XE FOR SAMPLING AND LOVE IT.

(I USE SHURE M44-7'S FOR DJING, BUT REALLY DON'T LIKE THE SOUND FROM THEM FOR SAMPLING).

Yo I heard that M44-7's are one of the best needles for scratching because of the high skip resistance. Is that true?

m447s are probably the best cutting needles if u have 1200s. But ya, they dont sound that great. They are kinda muddy. On my TTXs I like ortofons. I use M447s but I got them when I didnt know better. Ortofons sound great. And they hold really well. But when ive used em on 1200s they dont seem to hold as good.

i use vestax for scratching but i use my numark ttx for sampling you cant beat the digital out or line out of it and its a decent table as well.
