TAL Bassline - a virtual (VSTi) version of the infamous SH-101 synth.

The SH-101 is one of the most recognizable sounds around. One of the very best choices there is for fat basslines - the hardware version still goes for big$$$ (about four times the original release price  ).

Having the hardware at home, I can tell you that this virtual version is pretty darn good. Obviously not exactly the same as the hardware (it's an analogue synth after all!), but certainly very useable.

TAL U-No-60 is a decent emulation of the juno 60 as well

I think there might be another one too, an emulation of the minimoog or something

I don't own it, but it lives in my studio (it belongs to a friend who's given up on the whole music gane - but still wont sell it!).

It's the blue one. It's soooo much fun to play with :D

Theres not really any way to connect the sh-101 to the computer, so even if you did want to use it to control the inferior emulation of itself, you couldnt

 the idea of using a real synth simply as a MIDI controller for it's VST emulation is hilarious

so backwards!

yeah, i'm that guy. real simple question. but i guess it's possible anyway. 606 via usb to pc with sh-101 soft as an instrument. for those of us who don't have a physical copy of the sh-101. it's fine, forget about it.

There's actually a couple of really good reasons to use the VST instead of the real thing. First is recall. There is no way to recall the settings on the 101 when it is powered down. You can take a photo of the settings but even then it never sounds quite the same. Of course you can sample it, but then it sounds static (therefore defeating the purpose of using it).

With the VSTi, while it may not sound as good overall, it sounds fine in the mix, and more importantly it's predicatable!

The second reason is simplicity. There's no way to connect the 101 to anything really (I don't have any archaic cv stuff), so if you do want to use it in the mix, there's a fair bit of stuffing around to get it done. And the end result is not THAT much better. Basically anyone who really picks it out in the mix needs to get out more

The real thing is really more of a tasty show-piece than a really useful studio tool. On stage is another matter, but I'm not playing live anymore - and if I go back into the club scene it'll be just me, decks and the 606

soz jbl - your Q: no, I wouldn't put myself through the pain of trying to control the VSTi with the 606 - way more trouble than it's worth
