what up, i'm looking for a multitrack sequencer or whatnot to overdub my sp ish so i can have proper tracks for mastering purposes. i have wavelab but cannot figure out how to do overdubs, there's a "montage mode' i can't figure out. i'm looking for something simple and easy with minimal latency and as cheap as possible. right now i'm working with a sp-606 and a sampletrak i pitch and time stretch in.

You should check Reaper (no iLocks and the demo never expires). It's very light and if you decide to buy it ,it is waaaaay cheap (plus great support!).

They have those 4 track tascams for 100 bucks that seem to be pretty cool. Limited editing but it could be a great beat grabber and overdub machine for cheap. that is if your looking to stay away from a computer.
I just got a zoom r8 and its features are endless, great fx and its quick as fuck to record and keep it moving. I always have to eq everything in software because i can then i get lost.

ya i'd prefer to stay away from a computer ultimately, i was looking at that r8 myself but can't afford it right now.

Then check out the tascam 4 track (dp-04) for 100 bucks. Or save up. Both are probably quick record and instant gratification. The dp-04 is pretty limited, record and overdub is its main purpose.

The zoom r8, r16, and, r24 all look awesome in my estimation, anyone have info on the build quality?

I always read good comments on their built quality, but never checked personally

Zoom r8 is plastic but it seems like it can hold its own. Im pretty good with hardware as in i dont carry em around and gig em or nothing so my word is useless to someone who does that sort of thing. But its feels pretty solid, has some weight to it, probably as heavy as a monotribe. The knobs are all decent. The mpc is built like a fucking tank and heavy as fuck but the 1k's directional buttons are for shit. Had 2 in the past and both had issues with those buttons.
Its a pretty decent piece of hardware for the price and all the shit it can do. Kind of like a vs880, smaller and easier to route recording and usb interface, sampler with trim in and out points. fuck the rhythm stuff, not worth even a glance. So its pretty much not like a vs, buts its packed with fx like a vs, and not just presets, you can toggle some settings for ex. to get the right wah wah effect, or bass sim effect over some drums.

why not get the roland cdx-1

its like a ms-1 (its sampler section is pretty much a ms-1), sp 505 (looks like), and a multitrack in one!

even though there is someone always putting them on ebay for like $900ish they go for about $150-300. i almost got one a while back but didn't win it. i looked at the manual for days because of the sampler section and it is pretty much the same as the ms-1. i am actually surprised nobody talks about it on here. ms-1 + multitrack = nice

Its been talked about, and its not mentioned because there's not many going around and plus, they did get recalled back in the day and discontinued quick due to some nuances, so thats on everyone's mind. After the CDX-1, Roland came back with the monstrous MV8000 for that all in one package.

I also used the http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/271
vp-9000 for overdub but it had sampling time up to 1 minute&something.
I had to overdub back again to 606 ,but that made me use more effects!
It was a killer for the 606 cause I used the digital i/o with no quality lost, and had way better timestretch (vsynth engine) and vinyl type stretching....
But I prefer (quite) computers nowadays!

I would love to use that cdx-1 for around $150-200 but $900 is out of this world.

I think its for its rarity, remember, they were discontinued just after 6 months from its launch. But still, they were $699 USD brand new.
