I think it depends on your work flow too. If you want the final synth sound complete with FX, muliple voices and so on to come directly out of your synth, a Mopho is probably not for you.

If you want an analogue bass sound that can get pretty dirty and you can live with mono or only 4 voices, the Mopho might be for you. I'm sure many run their Mophos through FX pedals and all that to tweak it the hardware-way.

Advantage of the Blofeld is that you can tweak as if it's analogue, but with the flexibility of a software solution. From what I've read on these forums, the FX aren't too special, but they seem to get the job done.

The demo sounds of both the Mopho and Blofeld are pretty impressive, but I think I agree they are like apples and oranges.

No it's not cheap, it has a very good resale value. Usually prices vary between 250€ and 300€, where you can get a new Mopho for 300€-350€ nowadays.

The 8 voice (4 part multi-timbral) mopho, the Dave Smith Tetra costs about 700€ brand new. Haven't seen that one secondhand, but I expect it's in the upper 500-600€ range.

The Waldorf Blofeld R (the one without keys) goes for about 400€ new. Secondhand for about 325€-375€. If you get lucky it can get as low as 275€ secondhand, but that's pretty rare.

As said, these synths have an excellent resale value. :)

I'm using software synths now using a M-audio KeyStudio 49i. Doesn't have the knobs to tweak the synths directly, but its a joy to play.
