I'm currently saving for an audio interface for my setup and would like to have quite a few inputs. The one i've been eyeballing is the M-audio fast track ultra ( I will be wanting to track my drums eventually). For now im just using my sp606 but one mic input doesnt cut it. Also does anyone own a zoom h4? I might be picking one up as well.

if u need a usb 2.0 interface with more then 2 mic/line level inputs then the fast track ultra is probably a great choice. if your lookin into firewire alternatives as well, take a look at some of the presonus and motu stuff. also another usb alternative is edirol. all these brands listed make pretty reliable stuff with decent preamps, and they actually support their product with future updates of drivers etc...

The digi is certainly a nice piece of gear, but way above my price range. I need something that will track atleast 4 inputs to four diff channels ( so the behringer wont work ). I mainly will need it for my drums ( 1 kick, 1 snare, 2 overheads) so I need to be able to do 4 at once to 4 seperate tracks. I think so far the m-audio is the best bet unless one of you guys knows something I dont, so please enlighten me. I also like it because I will be able to use my 606 as a midi/audio interface with it.

go with the M Audio 610, they redid the clocking, converters, drivers and all that shiz...a very good product that can be found very cheap on Ebay. You can pair that with a free recording program and in the future purchase Pro Tools M Powered should you want (they just upgraded to version 8.0 which copies some of Logics midi functionality)

or for a little more doe, the Profire 2626, but that has inputs you probably won't use.

Yeah, I have been eyeing that one also. It has 4 mic inputs to be used at the same time? I need 4 atleast. I'll have to run to guitar center to see what they've got. I've never had a problem with m-audio stuff except sometimes having to re-install the drivers on my axiom. Plus that box looks sexier haha.

well i have zoom mrs-4 - the only bad issue about it is that when you record some parts you get short gaps where recording starts - really annoying, especially when you record punk guitar (it appears hearable in the mix)
never used h4 but try to find out if it has the same issue.

otherwise if you don't record live instruments or you record it at once without multiple takes i guess h4 might be handy

but if you need comoputer interface don't bother checkin zoom out

is an interface a necessity? There's some real good 8-12 channel mixers on the price range.

Yes an interface is a necessary because I want to be able to track multiple mics seperately at the same time, not just have one input with 8-12 diff sources. This is if I'm understanding all of this recording nonsense correctly.

http://www.infra-sonic.com/site/p_PCI_quartet.php

i have this card it can be switch to balanced or unbalanced. also keep note that most audio interface's a/d converters are manufactured by the same company which is AKM.

this card is ideal if mobility is not your thing.
