New Zealand,

I wouldn't mind taking a crack at hip hop and sample based music even if it's a little more eclectic but I want to produce nu breakbeats primarily and maybe a lil DnB

man i love breaks, but it doesn't seem anyone's putting on pure breaks parties here in melbourne anymore...seems dubstep has taken over

there's still drum and bass parties, though probably not as many as in Aotearoa, you guys love that shit hey?
you in Wellington?

we get some good breaks every now and again, DnB is good but we get too many clubs playing ministry shit and electro house :( it's bad music, for robot people who want sensible fun lol

Nah, Auckland mate :)

sorry to drag this on longer than necessary but it's so hard to make a decision, can the mc808 do the djing, scratching thing and can the sp-404 have multiple loops going at the same time? ie like phrases on a groovebox ie can I have afew drum loops a lead, a bass and trigger them, have them loop and mute them or unmute them simultaneously?

The 404 can do all that shit with loops. I don't know anything about the 808.

Uhh, can you be a tad more specific? The mc808 does have a big bunch of FX and it is a full blown sampler.

Sorry for being vague Phemox, ummm it's the slow down/speeding up the platter sounds and the scratching noises, I think it's the DJ Looper on the SP series

I it's possible to get the same result for sure, even if it means using a slicer FX, but as for which FX it has exactly I don't know.

The manual only mentions it has 2MFX with 47 different FX in total. I do think the DJ FX Looper might be one of them, but lets hear a MC-808 head. Vivi will know!

Thanks, you guys are the best! I haven't seen anywhere here that sells them or has one set up yet and wanna be cautious before dumping a fair bit into some new kit, more of a producer than a performer but I'd love some kit to do some live performances on nu school breakbeat style :D

You know, if you're going for a MC-808, I'd perhaps wait for a bit for now to get the best possible deal. Roland has just discontinued the MC-808.

That means possibly two things are going to happen. One the MC-808 is going to get cheaper on the secondhand market and in normal stores that want to get rid of stock as well.

Second, Roland might come with an all new MC product, and depending on it's initial price tag, it may be very interesting right from the start also.

Of course, looking at what you would want one for, I'd say go for it!

Novamusik have them for $599 USD which is a sweet deal, it's sample based so inevitably it has the potential to never go out of date, it has all those sweet Juno, 303, 808, 909, jupiter sounds (drools at the history of rolands noises) and I have a MPD, so it'd make a great live sampler. Thanks for putting it in perspective Phem :) Just gonna save a lil more, wait for the exchange to get up a bit and make sure to get some RAM (4mb and 22 seconds of sample time, yeeeesh, what were they thinking!?!)

Would love another instrument of destruction to get a guy into work who also has no music education into beat making, reckon we'd make a sweet production team, he has mad ideas :)
