Just unboxed the Roland A-49 and Roland MIDI cables.

Was pleasantly surprised on both counts. I've never seen such thick cable used for MIDI, it looks like the same thickness used in heavy duty mains cable, so really pleased I paid the premium for the Roland cables!

As for the A-49, it's a lot better keybed than I thought it would be and I'm glad they put grippy rubber feet on it so it doesn't slide around. Haven't actually used it yet but I don't need to do that to grade the quality and it definitely passes!

Nice little full-sized key controller with MIDI DIN and doesn't need a computer to configure anything, it's all done on the device, bloody brilliant!

I got Maschine 2 and 3 as well as the nektar aura beat composer.

My father in-law sent me a Macbook Air M2 as a way to tempt me to the dark side. i gotta confess it is working.

it's blowing my dell I7 workstation laptops running ubuntu studio out the water.

Fer YEARS I’ve wanted this unit! I didn’t get a big modular synth or case like I wanted, but I got a DAW in a box with the MC909, so it’s all a one stop shop. Drum machine, sampler, sequencer! Just have to find the right sounds in there! Lol. Planning to upgrade the memory and get a 256 mb SIMM card. It’s only supposed to support 128mb, but I think someone figured out how to support the whole memory cache.

Where do I order that card? Because I just purchased a 128mb Simm card for $35. I’d prefer to have 256, even though Roland didn’t officially have that feature supported.

i bought mine on ebay but it was 2011 also...
i don't know now where to find that
have you tried ebay, amazon or other sites?
pay attention to the adapter, mine is xdigital adapter (smc inter face), the card is an olympus one (256mb); i remember i had to try some of those befere to find the right one. If i can, i will try to find the ancient yahoo group (rip) conversation about that

i think that is from 2005-2006 from yahoo group i found it somewhere saved on my pc
at the end there is a link (video) from a guy from 202
hope this could help

[I'm using the OS v1.22 done with a 128MB SmartMedia Card first],
Yes, it's possible to save more than 128MB on a xD card,
I tested with several xD cards on the Market available today in
Sept14,2006 . Which was confusing cause I tryed to reference with the
Olympus E-20P Camera info,...."Ok to make this simple and not to
technical": the 128MB SmartMedia cards writes speed at 3MB/s, Reads
speed at 5MB/s...so I tested with a [DIGILIFE xD-SmartMedia Adpater I
order from North America in CANADA...I'm in Florida , USA] = , then
I used a OLYMPUS H256MB Xd-Picture Card(TM) Model:M-XD256H...In
Europe there known as [Model: High Speed xD-Picture Card 256MB], TYPE-
H meaning higher speed, spec are: writes speed at 9MB/s, Reads speed
at 15MB/s.....Don't use TYPE-M 256MB xD cards ..they do not work also
there writes slower speed at 2.5MB/s, Reads speed at 4MB/s........and
they do not format with Windows XP...ok to format these cards you
just connect the MC-909 with USB cable, then you see on the screen
pop up as Removable I:> drive. right click on this you then left
click on FORMAT, you see size 249MB, then set File System at FAT, not
on FAT32....then set at QUICK FORMAT ON WIN XP...I DON'T KNOW HOW ON
A MAC Computer..... then hit [ok]...then from the PC copy your ROLAND
& TEMP file to the xD-Smartmedia Adapter card.....well thats
all....next I will try to see if a xD 512 Mb xd card will work.
But maybe with no use, since the MC-909 can load 272 Mb MAX
(16mb+256mb)=272MB....well I'll keep trying to experiment.....Signing
off from DJFLEX-mk2
....and thank you Nico......cause with out you I would not gone
further and try to see if I can make this work......

RE-DIT!!!

It would seem that the 909 cannot do it... But a solution exists!

You need :

- Xd card,

- Xd / SM adapter

- smartmedia card (32Mb minimum)

- computer.

Once these elements joined together, the procedure is rather simple :

1. Format your SM card from your 909

2. Remove SM, and to replace it by Xd (with the adapter, of course)

3. Connect your 909 on computer by USB (MENU - USB - CARD)

4. Format your card from computer then disconnect (by swintching in pattern mode for ex.)

5. Remove your Xd card, then put your SM in

6. Connect your 909 to Computer

7. Copy ROLAND repertory from card to your computer, then disconnect

8. Put your Xd card in your 909 then connect to computer

9. Copy ROLAND directory in your Xd

Also as a Tip, When formating from the PC your xD/SMARTMEDIA card...make sure you disconnect your USB connection....you don't have to take the cable off..just exit out of your MC-909 USB connection....when swaping back and fourth your 128mb SMARTMEDIA CARD to your xD/SMARTMEDIA adapter. I notice that, from the PC when i tryed to formate setting was still reading 128mb ?? ....I think you were using a 15.9mb SMARTMEDIA CARD....and you did not refresh you MC-909. when swaping cards just disconnect the USB setting from the MC-909. Hope this info help?

Thank you! I’ll definitely try this. I got the weekend off, so I’m just planning on staying home and going through some YouTube 909 tutorials. Got a paper manual, 256mb Ram card, and a 128mb SIMM card. If it’s not gonna work I’ll try with a different one. Worst case scenario I just fill up a 128mb simm card. My SP505 would get insanely jealous of THAT kinda memory! I’m sure I can use the digital out of the 909 to be the sample source for the SP505. All I need are some manual DVDs & the SRX-05 Supreme Dance patch card. Good times!

Bought a Roland SRX-05 Supreme Dance card for the MC909, and I have the 256MB memory ready to pop in as well. Just need that 128MB SIMM card to arrive.

My SIMM card should arrive today for my MC909. As I just found out the sampler doesn’t downgrade anything you sample. Just straight up 44khz. No big deal. It’s why I have my ST224, SP202, S20 & SP505 for that. Probably busy until Sunday but I’ll give the sampling a go. See how I like it compared to the SPs.

Yes i know that, but there is also a cool lofi comp effect, that's not the same as downgrading samples, but better than nothing

I finally started messing around with the patches with the editor. You can crank almost every parameter for the Envelope/LFOs/Amp, etc, and it just won’t crash! I love that. Some features I know are there but haven’t discovered where it’s hiding. (Like the Apreggator). This is one piece of gear that might take me months to learn. I’m ordering some tutorial DVDs even if they cover the same info. Just is gonna take some trial & error.

Really pleased to see you finally got your hands one, Headphones, so now it's time to kick some sonic ass and let us hear what you're getting out of her!

Had some spending money, and I decided to get a couple Hungry Robot Modular pedals, VCA & ASDR. I wanted a Attenuator pedal as well, but that can wait.
