yeah- just upgrading an original sp808 to an sp808 EX.

as far as I know its essential to change the zip disk to 250 - although not a 100 percent. what happens if you just update the os with the 100 mg zip drive?

Any internal 250mb ZIP drive should work. I had an ASR-X Pro a while back and replaced the zip drive in it. It was just a normal IDE ribbon cable connecting it just like in a computer. One thing you may want to take note of when you take the old drive out is where the jumpers (tiny plastic caps that connect pins next to the IDE connector) so you can set em the same on the new drive.

nice find drew. i just won a sp-808 (groove sampler) online for less than a hundred dollars so i will be doin' some searching of places like this. i don't really plan on using it as a sampler but more as a four-track and i'm thinking of leaving it alone and not upgrading. maybe next i'll get a 808ex. i just hope this one works all right. the guy i won it from is just a used electronics seller but he got it to power up no problem. it seems good to me.

i have yet to see anyone who really has got this combo to work.
cf drive and 808, and when i say work i mean; no problems. is there anyone on here who is using a cf drive on their 808 with no probs?

BUT actually i want to upgrade the OS to EX version, while retaining my zip100. cuz i see no reason whatsoever to put any money into the 808.

Hey JBL,

I got my SP-808 with the original OS, 10 Zips and neat gigbag a month and a half ago. (near-Mint condition for 150 Euros)
I immediately hooked it up to my computer to upgrade the OS to EX via MIDI.
I have been using the unit extensively all this time with the 100Mb Zipdrive and disks inside. No problems whatsoever. So i can confirm that it works!

Cheers, Rich

p.s. I will upgrade the ZIP to a 250Mb drive next week. (10 euros is not a bad deal)
