Hi
I've been trying to load wavs into my 3.3v 64mb smartmedia card according to the manual and i believe i've done everything right(ALL CAPS, 0001, format in sp first, etc). But for some strange reason, windows isn't able to complete the transfer and i get this "cycle redundancy check" error or cannot read from the source file or disk. I'm using vista and bought the card reader on ebay, it's model fpts-s.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Did you tried your card reader in other PC?
Do you know if your memory card it is working?
I don't think it is a Windows problem but check the card reader or your card in another PC before...

Yeah i tried on 3 other computers. One with xp, one with 7 and one with osx and the same thing happened with all of them. I can play the wavs on itunes and quicktime and i can record to the smartmedia on the sp303. I guess it's probably the card reader

It looks like...
If you can save and load WAVs from your SM card to your SP then definitively you have a damaged card reader.

Are you sure it's not your memory card? (If it works in the sp, but not in the reader). I'd get another memory card on eBay or your local radio shack(or where you can find one anyway) just to make sure that's not the problem.

Then I'd look for any all-in-one reader. Windows usually needs drivers for anything you plug into it. So if your device needs a driver, try to locate it for the exact device you bought. If this still doesn't solve the problem, you may have to do the most expensive purchase ever, and get a mac. Hope it doesn't come to that, so keep trying new cards/card readers before you try a new computer altogether...

When you get a CRC i'm guessing it is the card..

I remember with CDs CRC would mean the cd was screwed.. but i suppose its possible that it was the *reader* reporting back that it had failed to read, rather than that something bad was read from the medium..

I guess try a new card or try a new reader.. whichever is cheaper

Thanks for the help guys
I ended buying both a new card and reader(60 bucks total..) and finally managed to get the samples on the sampler. For some reason it didn't pick up the wav files but aiff worked perfectly. i tried reading the old card in the new card reader and it showed up as being "write protected" so i guess it did get corrupted after all.
