is there some sort of swing feature while recording (not quantizing) on the 303?

i keep recording patterns on beat and then when it plays back it sort of has a swing feel to it? i have a 505 and thought it does, what about the 303

any tips?

you can rock hard core swing on the 303. diferent types of swing with 16 and 16.3 . there is a sweet spot for tempo for diferent swings so experiment.

i think its called "16 t " then maybe its just a triplet.

you can test them in action by painting them onto the suquencer with quanitize. and then erase the ones you dont like. and then mix non triplets 16s and 8s .

Naw man, there is no 16th note triplets on the 303 like the 404 and it doesn't record 32nd notes either. But if you double you pattern length and double the bpm the 8th note triplets effectively become 16th note triplets for those that might not know already. Now go get your Bernard Purdie on y'all.

I like to lay down kicks with the triplets rather than hi hats, that can give a nice swing if done right. I think Juxt might use triplets to get those bangin' drums on his 404.

Ya man...just dont use quantize at all....quantizing is for club producers lol.....real hip hop producers do not quantize...but just a note: the 303 does quantize better than the 404/555.

im not sure if i get this right but you wanna add swing while recording unquantized? that just doesnt make sense to me

if you really want to do it this way ( or even withe quantized shit ), just record your samples with some air in front and use the mark button to put them at the beginning of your sound ( dont truncate them ). after recording the pattern you can now adjust the start points to your liking to create some swing.

I always double the tempo on all sequencers I use for these resons:
1: it doubles the resolution
2: count in takes half the time (can't stand to wait that long to record)
3: 8t is then 16t, and that gives me the swing I need for my kicks

Very interesting topic but it seems a lil weird to me that there are all these quantizing tricks to get swing. Swing is something that drummers get by playing thru the measures...wouldn't the best way to get swing in your beats be to learn how to play them live with swing (i.e. no quantizing)? Maybe I'm being a lil bit overly simplistic about it but it seems all these tricks are just a diff way of doing what you can do by hitting the pads at the correct times to give feeling of swing
