The MC303 was the first Roland to be marked Groovebox . It has 7 synth polyphonic synth parts and then a sampled drum section. The 8 track sequencer can also drive external MIDI gear (like an SP).

Tascam seems to like to use knobs to differentiate themselves from Roland. Roland usually gives you way more goodies but you have to menu surf to get at them.

It has an early 80s digital sound, kinda like a poor man's DX7. When it came out in the 80s at less than $500 it blew a lot of people's minds. Back then there were no synths that ran on batteries let alone cost well under $1000...and that's in 1980s dollars.

The presets (16) are pretty cheesy ...

The File Import function can import a single file or multiple files. You can specify the starting pad and the samples are loaded to consecutive pads until all selected files are loaded.

Page 68 of the manual gives the details.
