the DI box was something i was thinking about too - i'll see what else i can do first though. maybe even changing the sp404's operating level might help by improving the signal to noise ratio?

yeah, rcas can be noisy sometimes, but this hum is there even with just headphones and no other connections...

i've though about running off of batteries - but i got mine 2nd hand and it doesn't seem to work? i just need to get the right allen key so i can have a look inside... i presume it's ...

i've had the 404 for a while now. now i'm getting much deeper into using it (instead of just mucking around learning things), i'm a little bit concerned about the sort of hum i'm getting.

it's pretty obvious on headphones ... tried it on different power points in the house, at different houses ...

no, it's the same via phones or the cables... damn ah well, the 404 is probably my best bet now.
