I haven’t owned the 505 or any of the 404’s, but do have many of the other ones + an MV …I’d recommend the ST-224. It really is grimy and it does many things well. The 303 just ain’t worth the price IMO (and I have 2 303’s). I use my 224 way more than the 303’s.

I agree with you SP-USER. Roland is far from being the only (recently) grimy corporation of doing these half-baked redos. Elektron is guilty with their "change to dark greys and blacks + 2 buttons" redo's of the Analog Rytm and stuff. I'd argue that big players like Gibson and Fender play this game ...

Did your machine have the Loopmaster samples pre-loaded?

Circa 2015, driving around Riverside, CA on 90 degree plus day. Pull up to a pawn shop with $4-500 in my bank account. Saw they had a Zoom ST-224 and a Yamaha SU-200 for $100 each. The 224 had a printed out manual. Had a pay-by-da-minute phone and didn’t want to use the internet to look up these ...

Apparently some can sample like the BR1600. Any cool features or effects in any of these boxes?

I just bought a modded MS-1, my 2nd ms tho. The mod is a pot for changing the clock sync which changes the sampling rate. I’ll try to record something with it and post it up here.

How is the build quality of these ASR’s? I ask bcuz I’ve seen two on the local Craigslist that were both beat to s###.

The MS-1 is dope. I route stuff through it as a hardware effect all the time. Kinda like an Elektron Analog Heat (or really a OTO Biscuit) but cheaper and more OG. I should clarify: I wish I could find or afford a hw Biscuit.
