yes it's the wrong cable. As I said above, you need to switch the polarity of the plug. The SP needs the centre (hole) of the power plug to be negative, and the outside to be positive. I think you can get an adapter to do ...

Search "battery pack" on these forums and you'll find a bunch of info. You may need to reverse the polarity of the plug, as the SP is centre negative. Most generic 9v stuff is centre positive.
