no they dont give a fuck about the consumer...
you've just got to hope they have enough pride in their own company and reputation that it has a positive affect on the consumer...
look at the way Akai have behaved....they dont care about the consumer, but they clearly also dont really have much ...

Re: Making good drum kits from scratch
envelope is everything when chopping drums....
if there is reverb on the drum break you are chopping, don't try and ride off that reverb in your drums.....curve the kicks / snares / hihats off and put your own reverb on them....
you gotta get that decay right for each hit......

sounds like you need to learn the low end theory....
that's where you'll get that warmth.....
failing that just find a VST with a bass synth....filter it down low, tune it and play it...

Re: Making good drum kits from scratch
Yeh the most obvious one is to chop all the elements from the same drum break.
The second is to just learn how to choose what sounds go with what and then tune them to each other. But don't overdo it...you don't need 4 kicks, 4 snares, 4 hats etc....
Third is a bit of a simple idea but can be ...

Re: Some questions about the ol' SP-202
I've had mine since they first came out and it still works fine other than the fact it doesn't run off the mains anymore....only batteries....
I wouldn't recommend one on its own for making beats personally....its nice as part of a setup but you'll want something with a sequencer....

I started out on Fruityloops & Cool Edit Pro.....then I bought a 2000xl...
it took me quite a while to appreciate it.....I didn't even have the EB16 at first so I was mugged right off without having FX I could just chuck on to stuff like when using software.....
got a Renaissance now and for me ...
