Re: SP 303 Equalizer

It is a 3-band EQ. They are at fixed frequencies. They do not silence the band when turned all the way down.

It's a decent EQ but I would recommend a dedicated EQ to do the job right. A SP-303 may be a good tool for other situations though. The effects are killer, but the EQ is basic.

Re: SP-303 Beat Tapes - Free Downloads

Thanks, man, I appreciate it!

I'd love to have some MC's spit on my beats but they're hard to come by. Beats are easy to make but promoting is hard. I used to do a lot of promotion but my beats sucked and I got nowhere. Now I've got beats I'm proud of but I don't know how to get them out there.

Re: SP-303+Microkorg=Envelopes & Other Trickery (Chunkulator

Sadly I had to part ways with my beloved SP-303 a few months ago. I look forward to getting one again soon though. I have a more advanced setup now but I really miss being able to knock out microwave beats on the couch. It's a swift motherfffffer when it comes to chopping.

Re: SP-303+Microkorg=Envelopes & Other Trickery (Chunkulator

How could I forget the simple but effective use of a Velocity Controlled Filter. This livens up drums and makes every hit unique. Combine that with a Filter Envelope with quick Attack, long Release, and a low filter envelope amount (anywhere from 5-20). This creates ultra dynamic drums that sound ...

SP-303+Microkorg=Envelopes & Other Trickery (Chunkulator)

Many of you probably have a Microkorg keyboard laying around (or being used constantly) that you would like to get more use out of. You may also have a SP-303 that you wish had more "Serious Sampler" features. Through the magic of MIDI you can create a SUPER SP-303.

Simply Hook the MIDI OUT of ...

Re: Quick Chop Technique for SP-303

Great I'm glad this helps!

I forgot to mention that I also usally chop 3-5 off the start point of of a resample. Not always but especially things like drum hits that need to have no latency get trimmed.

Quick Chop Technique for SP-303

I'm sure many of you ninjas do these things already but this is the quickest way I've found to chop a one shot sample and then sequential samples after that.

So you sample to a pad. Let's say you sampled 8 bars of a songs. The first chop you want is the 3 bar( be any bar). So you play the sample ...

Re: ADSR alternatives SP303???

I recently got a Microkorg and it helps to do this very thing. If you use the MK as a midi controller it can trigger the sp-303. Then you route audio through the Microkorg on osc 1 set to audio. When you press a key it will open up the audio gate. If you press a key you will hear a sample if the key ...

Re: Bassline help

Low frequencies need the help of their higher harmonics to help them be heard on small speakers such as computer or laptop speakers. Sometimes we create a kick or bass that doesn't have many or any harmonics, it is just a low fundamental frequency. Everything needs its own treatment but the idea is ...

Re: Record real Track (to rap)

Either method works.
If you tell the rapper that the beat is as is and resample he will write to fit the song, not for you to produce up. Plus you can accomplish most of what you want for rap with a simple drop out or filtered basslin drop if you have an engaging track already. Tape echo can help ...

Re: Finger dumbing

Keep all your samples on gate and play beats with one hand. It starts off really tough especially on pick up notes and rolls to get them to hit even.
But after a few days to a week it'll be easy.

One pattern that is a nice challenge for this is the song top billin. Just a kick and a snare played ...

Re: having multiple kit sounds on 1 pad for easy access

I have a memory card with the backup banks full of 808s and sub bass that I recorded onto one pad for each back up. Each time the 808 hits it goes up in pitch. The back up banks each have different decays. I use these when I'm too lazy to get off the couch and use a real drum machine.

Re: bouncing beats to another format?

I usually bounce the whole beat tape to a cassette as a mastering step. I feel it gives a consistency to the tracks. I run it a little hot to get some saturation.

There's only a cassette player in my car so I test the bump on cassettes usually.
