Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!

Oh come on, that's quite unfair, there's more to it than just repackaging. And in fact, they're quite honest about it being quite the same as the SP-404, as they haven't renamed the thing to SP-707. For a product called SP-404SX, we shouldn't even expect an entirely new sampler.

I wasn't ...

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!

*yawn*

repackaging of somw features of the 555. The "improved effects" are right off the 555. Bit Crash and the tragically redesigned Vinyl Sim are there. Nothing new here. Roland seems very content repackaging their products and doing nothing new.

I do like the darker color though over the ...

because the machines timing is so strict, minute differences in timing can cause a gradual shift over time.

I haven't read up on the sr-16, but there may be some slight timing jitter at fault.

you can midi chain all your devices together, press play on one and all will start playing using the ...

Re: Can you tell a difference?

I bought a single 1/4 inch to RCA sometime ago from Radioshack. Can anyone hear the difference between radioshack cables and the monster ones?

the difference is THEY BREAK. everything from radioshack is crappy. monster cables from daddy's junky music can be returned for new ones if they break ...

actually, you bring up am interesting thing here. While most of what you're listening to is algorithms and automated modulation, I've come up with a few techniques that approximate certain abstract sounds using nothing more than a 404.

Frozen reverb---Some reverbs have a "freeze" switch that ...

there's a few ways to approach the abstract, whether you're trying to do microsound thing where there's short glitchy samples making up a repeating pattern giving context to a beat or the more ambient scene.

I will say that its hard to do on purpose. Most of the stuff you might listen to was done ...

I got my first Portastudio in '95, but i'd been writing things for a few years before that. I come from a guitar background and was making terrible Industrial type music with my guitar, a drum machine and a friend that screamed into a mic alot. Ah, good times. :)

yeah, i love Renoise as well. The genius of trackers is it allows you to do just about everything without a stupid mouse. It does take awhile to get a grip on as its a different way of working than the standard timeline DAWs, but once you do, it's fairly effortless.

Venetian Snares is a big ...

I doubt you could call it a "beat". it's more on the ambient experimental side, but it exists nonetheless.
